YouTube for Android launches a new gesture: so you can quickly scroll through a video

At the end of last year YouTube changed the behavior of the progress bar to avoid those involuntary touches that displace the reproduction, forcing us to have to hold down your finger to move forward or backward the reproduction. Well, now Google is improving this gesture to make it easier to do.

Through the last YouTube beta we see how Google is activating a gesture that allows us to search for the interesting part of a video in a new way, without having to click on the playback bar.

{“videoId”: “x81ixgo”, “autoplay”: true, “title”: “Youtube CENSORS dangerous videos but not ALL”}

This is the new YouTube gesture

Currently YouTube offers us two gestures to move forward or backward in a video: quickly tapping on the sides of the video to move forward and backward in 10-second steps, or press on the play bar and slide sideways without releasing.

This new gesture on the playback bar will look for the exact moment of a video thanks to the fact that we are seeing a thumbnail of that second, but when we play the video in full screen it forces us to make two screen touches: a first touch to show the playback bar and another second touch of the screen to scroll through the video.

With the new gesture that Google is testing or activating in a staggered way, this does not happen, since it moves this gesture to the entire video screen. Yes we keep the finger pressing anywhere in the video the new gesture will be activated “Swipe left or right to search “, avoiding that we have to slide our finger over the thin red line of reproduction.

Of course, to minimize involuntary movements, you have to keep your finger pressed for a second so that we can already slide to the sides to find at what point in the video we want the playback to skip. Once Google activates this gesture on our mobile we have to be careful to clean the screen when we are watching a video.
