WhatsApp prepares a small big change for voice notes: being able to listen to them at a faster rate

One of the “problems” that WhatsApp has is that if someone sends a very long voice note there is no way (official) of listen to them faster as you can, for example, on Telegram. For a few days we have known that WhatsApp works on a function to allow it and now, courtesy of WaBetaInfo, we know what this function will be like and what options it will give us.

According to the well-known WhatsApp function filter, in the new version of WhatsApp Beta for Android (2.21.6.11) you can see what the new WhatsApp button will look like for increase the playback speed of audio notes. This will allow us to even double its speed, something that until now could only be done with third-party apps.

Five minutes to two and a half minutes

Velocities Different playback speeds in WhatsApp voice notes.

In the screenshots that WaBetaInfo has shown we can see that under the profile photo of our contact appears a little blue button. When you press this button, the playback speed will change. By default it seems that it will be set to 1.0x, that is, standard speed, but it can be set to 1.5x, which is 50% faster and in 2.0x, which is double.

According to the leaker, WhatsApp would also support “lower playback speeds, but they won’t be released to the public because they make less sense.” In the same way, a speed greater than double may not make as much sense, since that could cause audio distortion and make it difficult to understand what was said by our contact.

WaBetaInfo exposes that the function is in development, but that will be available for beta versions of iOS and Android in the coming weeks. Therefore, it will still be necessary to wait a while for it to reach all users. Usually it takes a few weeks before a feature jumps from beta to stable, so you have to be patient.
