Wear OS prepares to support other digital assistants: the Google Assistant will no longer be the only option

Until now, for all watches with Wear OS they have to come standard with it Google Assistant, but this looks like it will change with the new unified platform from Google and Samsung.

With Wear OS 3 it seems that the user and / or the manufacturer will have the freedom to install alternative assistantsAt least that’s what the source code of the latest version of the Wear OS application tells.

Alternate wizards in Wear OS

References to a package name called ‘com.google.android.wearable.alternate_assistant’, which would mean that Wear OS 3 would support alternate assistants.

It looks like Google is going to fully open Wear OS to allow manufacturers to implement other voice assistants, and perhaps allow users to select their favorite voice assistant on their watch. For example, Samsung may add Bixby on their new Galaxy Watch 4, as it was leaked a few days ago, or that users can add Alexa on their watches.

To clear up doubts we will have to wait for the presentation of Wear OS 3, whose launch is expected to arrive in the remainder of the year together with the next Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, whose watches will be the first to release Google’s new wearable operating system.
