Google will improve weather forecasting
Today, Google announced its collaboration with a number of institutions in the field of meteorology. Since this month, the company has been working with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), known in Spanish as the National Office for Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. In addition to another agreement with Satellite and Information Service (NESDIS), the National Service of Environmental Satellites, Data, and Information in Spanish.
The objective of this collaboration is investigate the benefits of using artificial intelligence and Machine learning to improve the use of environmental and satellite data by NOAA. In addition, together with NESDIS, they will use artificial intelligence and machine learning to extend NOAA’s environmental monitoring, weather forecasting and climate research through the Google Cloud infrastructure. This collaboration will give them access to a huge amount of data collected to improve the prediction of extreme weather events, such as hurricanes and tornadoes.
Through these agreements, Google could bring a greater precision in weather predictions to your applications and services, which will thus help users around the world to make better decisions based on the time expected that day, or that a natural disaster can be anticipated.
This is something that could be applied in various applications of the firm, either its weather app or applications like Maps, which inform users about natural disasters. By being able to predict what is going to happen more precisely, the information in these apps will be more accurate. Both data on the weather, such as the existence or approach of a disaster (hurricane, tornado …), which will allow users to be better informed. This way they will be able to make better decisions, such as planning the routes to follow to avoid problems in the case of Maps, for example.
