The ZTE Axon 20 5G became the first mobile with a camera under the screen to go on sale in Spain. Several manufacturers have been working on placing the front camera of their phones under the screen for a long time. Soon it will not only be possible to place the front camera under the screen, since the face unlock sensor can also be placed under the panel, as Trinamix has made official.

Trinamix has introduced a 3D face unlock sensor that can be placed under an OLED panel. This sensor would make an all-screen phone much more comfortable and that in the near future we could already see on some Android phones.

This system of face unlock under the Trinamix screen stands out for the use of data. In addition to capturing infrared light with a pattern of dots, the technology uses a feature called Beam Profile Analysis that allows distance and material to be measured. According to the firm, it offers the same level of performance as systems like ToF. In this case, the only important requirement is to use a screen similar to the one that ZTE has used on its mobile.

This technology can be used in many cases, as in mobile payments, where it will be safe enough. In addition, it will even have skin detection to be able to make sure that it is a real person who is trying to unlock the phone and it is not a photo or some type of cardboard.

This Trinamix technology will hit the market in the near future, the brand has said be working with some phone manufacturers, but they have not given names at the moment. Manufacturers are currently testing this new system, so it doesn’t seem like it will be on the market this year. It is estimated that the first shipments could begin in the first months of 2022. In addition, the firm will show it live at an event in Shanghai at the end of February.

As with an under-screen camera, this under-screen facial unlocking system may be a compromise. The quality could be worse or it would take longer to recognize the face than a normal sensor, but it paves the way for it to be used more generally in the future.

The entry The first mobile phone with an under-screen facial unlocking sensor will arrive soon, it appears first in The Free Android.
