In Android we can find games that move away from the skills with the buttons to jump, hit or shoot, and focus on the user developing a story with great depth. This development can be carried out with puzzle solving or decision making.

A genre that mixes games and cinema

It is not news that video games and the film industry come together to create a work, either to adapt a film to a game, or vice versa. For the first case, the union between both industries is growing, not only because of the development of highly cinematic video games with scenes, plots and dialogues that seem from a movie, but the relationship is reinforced every day with the appearance of high-class actors in the video game.

For examples, see Death Stranding, Cyberpunk 2077 or Detroit: Become Human. However, this is no longer exclusive to desktop consoles, but for mobile devices we have a multitude of options.

Interactive movies designed for Android

The touch screen of the mobile phone gives new possibilities to the developers of this type of game in which the story and the plot prevail. The different puzzles and decisions can be solved by imitating the gestures of the character when turning a page of a book, scratching on a surface or, simply, taking advantage of the gyroscope to interact with an object as if we had it in our hands, giving new sensations that we do not can be achieved with the joystick and buttons on the console controls.

Versions of narrative games for Playstation and Xbox on Android

It is fortunate to have titles on Android that have been developed or have been successful on desktop consoles. They are games whose launch has been simultaneously on all platforms or, as we will see below, their popularity has brought them to mobile devices.

The Wolf Among Us

With a philosophy similar to that of The Walking Dead: The Game, The Wolf Among Us is a game that mixes graphic adventure, action, and drama in several episodes, currently a total of five. Mysteries that we will have to solve while we play, and that give rise to multiple developments in which the player becomes the creator of the action: depending on the decisions you make, you will have one end or another.

Dragon’s Lair

The showy Dragon’s Lair 1983, a title laserdisc shows that cinematic interest has existed in video games for decades. The protagonist in question is Dirk the Fearless, a knight trying to rescue Princess Daphne from the evil dragon Singe, who has locked the princess in the castle of the wizard Mordroc. The screen shows animated scenes, and the player executes an action by selecting a direction or pressing the sword button with the correct timing.

Life is Strange

It was born out of nowhere and has reserved a niche in many game libraries. Square Enix has been responsible for importing this title from consoles to mobile devices. Life is Strange It is divided into five episodes, all of them intertwined in the narrative part and in which the decisions we make will affect the development of the story. And this is his great asset: that the development and the outcome will depend greatly on what the player chooses at each moment.

Batman – The Telltale Series

Another monster in video game development has one of the most awarded and showy works when it comes to storytelling. In this adventure we will have to control both Batman as Bruce Wayne, his alter ego, solving mysteries in the city of Gotham and interacting with the mythical characters of the comic. We will meet the tireless Joker, The Penguin or Riddler.

Great classics of narrative adventure on Android

Although the previous titles can already be considered as classics within the platform, in this section we are going to compile the narrative games that are exclusively on Android, although we can find some or other for PC.

Interrogation: Deceived

It’s an interrogation game, as you may have guessed, in which you are a police officer, which seeks to question suspects, mess with them as much as he is morally willing, and help find a way to take down a dangerous terrorist group. You will have to manage your team and your reputation while you interrogate, so manipulation, torture, threats, everything must be balanced.

Unmemory

Unmemory is a text-based puzzle game in which you scroll down through a story, with puzzles and riddles scattered throughout. This thriller is very gripping, where the sound and interactive puzzles are an integral part of the story. You were tracking down a man who murdered your girlfriend, but you are someone who suffers from memory loss, so reconstructing what happened will be the point of the story.

Ord.

Ord. is described as a “fast-paced narrative” game, along with a story spiced with multiple endings and “many secrets” that we can discover as we make the corresponding decisions. Embark on an adventure to defeat an evil sorcerer and confronts a series of (more or less) serious decisions.

The White Door

The White Door is another of the narrative games that tries to return color and memories to someone’s life, after having forgotten everything, a plot similar to Unmemory. You will need to follow Robert’s daily routine and then collect good memories of his dreams at night, which will allow him to remember his life.

Orwell

As if they were the Big Brother of 1984, the players will analyze the information of different people and will decide which one interests the government. Then they will transmit it to the spy network, called Orwell. It is a game where players will take the role of a surveillance operating system that spies on users suspected of being criminals, terrorists and the military. A tribute to George Orwell’s novel and, in addition, a critic o wake up call to a subject such as user monitoring through communications.

The Walking Dead: Season One

This game puts us in the context of the series to take the control of unknown characters but with great story environments, which we must take care of to continue and make important decisions throughout the game. The adventure is translated into spanish, which we do not find in other titles in the franchise. It is not for less that it is another work of art designed by Telltale Games, experts in adventure games and narrative games.
