Lidl now sells its own smart light bulbs and smart home devices 1

The smart home has more and more alternatives in Spain, and the last to arrive is none other than the Lidl supermarket chain. The company has decided to go all out with a range of smart accessories, including bulbs, LED strips, power strips, sensors and even a smart heater, all at prices that, without being extraordinarily cheap, turn out to be very competitive:

This is Lidl’s smart home range: smart bulbs, sensors and more

Lidl has started selling its range of connected home products in its online store (and in a few days, also in physical stores), a range that seems very competitive from the start. Instead of Wi-Fi, these devices use the Zigbee communication standard in version 3.0, a more efficient and secure wireless communication, with fully encrypted communications.

In return, Zigbee accessories require a switchboard. If you have an Amazon Echo Plus or the new fourth generation Amazon Echo without even knowing it, you already have one at home (since these speakers integrate their own switchboard), but in case you don’t have one, Lidl sells its own central to control all the devices that they sell from the Lidl app itself or through Google Assistant voice commands.

The complete catalog is on their dedicated website, but initially all they sell is:

  • Central home automation for 29.99 euros.
  • Digital home:

As soon as you receive your devices, if you buy the same Lidl Zigbee switchboard you can download the Lidl Home application to control the devices. On the other hand, as it is a standard, if you have a fourth generation Amazon Echo Plus or Amazon Echo, having these have an integrated Zigbee switchboard it should be possible to integrate all the devices within the Alexa application without having to buy the central one. home automation from Lidl.
