Perhaps because we relate it to the exchange of SMS, a message format that is already seen as very old-fashioned, but which can have different applications in the workplace and with contacts that we do not have added to the agenda. The fact is that Google Messages allows users on Android schedule the sending of an SMS. Thus, if you want a person to receive that message at a specific time, you can schedule it to be sent at a specific time or date, so you don’t have to worry about sending it at that time.

Can it only be scheduled in Google Messages?

Scheduling the sending of messages is nothing new in messaging apps. For example, you can schedule messages on Telegram to send later. We can also find it in the email, since this function is similar to the option to schedule the sending of an email in Gmail. Both the operation and the interface have certain similarities, something that should not be a surprise, since they are both Google apps.

However, WhatsApp does not yet have this function, so its introduction in Google Messages is an important advance for the Google app. To access this function, it is only necessary go to the Play Store and update the app to the latest version available. Once you have this function on your Android mobile, you will only have to follow these steps to schedule the sending of a text message in Google Messages.

How to schedule a message to be sent

The first step to schedule messages in Google Messages is the simplest: open the messaging app of Google. After entering Google Messages, it is time to access the conversation in which you want to schedule the sending of the SMS. You can do it by clicking on a chat already created or opening a new one through the button located in the lower right corner of the screen.

The next thing you should do is write in the lower text bar the content of the message you want to schedule. Attention, just write it, you should never send it. Remember that you can attach files such as images and add emojis, among other aspects. Once the message is written, you only have to schedule it to finish the task in Google Messages. The programming tool is not in sight, is hidden behind the submit button.

To open the function to schedule the sending of the message, press and hold the send button, in the lower right corner of the terminal screen. You can also recognize it by the icon of the send button and the word “SMS”.

When you click on the send button, a window will open in which you can configure the sending of the text message for later. You can choose between a predetermined time, for example, “Later today, 6 PM”), or select the specific day and time programming directly on a calendar and on a clock. After configuring the delivery, you must confirm the choice by clicking on the button “Keep”. Thus, the information will appear with the date and time of programming just above the content of the message.

To end, click on the send button and the sending of the message will already be programmed in Google Messages for the exact moment that you yourself have chosen. That’s how easy and fast it is to schedule the sending of a text or SMS message in Google Messages to send it later. We remind you that, if you click on the send button and the programming function does not display, it is because you don’t have the app update yet. In short, and in a more schematic way, the steps that we have to follow in this case are:

  1. Open Google Messages on your mobile.
  2. Go to the conversation where you want to schedule that message.
  3. Write the SMS.
  4. Once written, press and hold on the send icon.
  5. A box will appear to schedule your shipment.
  6. Select when to send this SMS, there are several suggestions at the top in the box.
  7. If you want to send it on a different date, click on Choose date and time.
  8. Choose the date.
  9. Click next.
  10. Select the hour.
  11. Click on save.

You just have to wait a few more days (or even no wait) to be able to take advantage of this great function developed by Google for its messaging app. This, along with integrated video calls and voice messages, are the new strengths of Google Messages to fight against rivals like WhatsApp and Telegram.

A much safer messaging app than before

If what concerns us in an instant messaging app is the security it has when it comes to protecting our messages and all kinds of multimedia resources, it is also a valid option. In recent times, Google has focused on further shielding its portfolio of services to make it more secure for users, and specifically, its messaging app.

Google Messages has the implementation of the end-to-end encryption in its RCS-based messaging app, a feature that resides alongside manual restoration of cloud backups. This RCS is an Enriched Communication Services protocol that was introduced in the Google Messages application, as a evolution of SMS that allows users to continue sending messages and various files without depending on the operators.

However, unlike the messaging app owned by Facebook, this security function is totally optionalIt also depends on the quality of the connection. In case of not being stable or very strong, the user could send SMS / MMS instead of messages encrypted under the RSC protocol.
