Your smartphone has fallen into the water! After you panic and before you consider buying a new one, know that there are some techniques to save you. Find some simple and practical tips that can save the life of your smartphone.

Take it out and turn it off quickly

You are used to playing with your smartphone anywhere and by mistake you have dropped it into the water. And unless your device is waterproof, your little dip can damage it. If you expect to get it back more or less intact, get it back immediately.

Once done, turn off the device as gently as possible to prevent water from penetrating deeper. Finally, wipe your smartphone with a clean, dry cloth and let it dry for a few minutes. Later you will know if your phone is recoverable or not.

Remove the battery and SIM card

Once your laptop has fallen into a liquid, the reaction to have after recovering it is not to turn it on again to avoid short circuits. To take further precautions, remove the battery and SIM card and dry them together with the wet parts of the smartphone with a paper towel. Proceed carefully and don’t scrub especially as you risk spilling even more liquid on the phone.

Try using a bag and rice

Once the laptop is dropped into the water, the liquid may quickly seep into the device. To avoid this, you must first dry the outside of the phone and then remove the internal elements (battery, SIM and SD card). Next, you need to dehumidify the circuits of the smartphone. To do this, you only need a bag of rice. Note that rice is known to absorb moisture.

Therefore, you will need a container in which to put the rice and the various items for your laptop. Leave everything in a dry place for 24 to 48 hours.

After this waiting time, make sure the device is dry and try restarting it. If it does not turn on again, the battery may be exhausted. Also, feel free to plug it in to see if it still works. If this is the case, remember to quickly back up all the data on it, because a smartphone rarely survives a step in water if it is not waterproof.

What you must not do

When you don’t have the proper tips, you may be tempted to dry your phone by any means. One of the things not to do when a smartphone has been dropped in water is to use a hair dryer or place it on a radiator to dehumidify it.

Keep in mind that the components of the laptop and especially the battery are very sensitive to heat. Therefore, avoid using devices that produce heat or hot air to dry it. Ultimately, you can use the cool air feature of the hair dryer. However, this technique is not recommended, because it only pushes water into the device.
