Harmony OS 2.0 was officially presented yesterday, the new version of Huawei’s operating system, which is expected to reach phones in 2021. At least these are the plans of the well-known manufacturer, which seeks to start using its alternative to Android next year on mobile phones that are expected to arrive also to Spain. In fact, they claim that their operating system is already well advanced.
It was Yu Chengdong, CEO of the Consumer Business Group, who said that Harmony OS is now one 70-80% Android level. So in 2021 it would be ready to be used in the first phones of the brand. Although these statements raise doubts as well, especially after the statements of the founder of Huawei months ago.

Harmony OS is almost ready
Huawei is preparing for all kinds of different scenarios, like they are going to face a full ban on using Google software. If this happens, the brand could start using Harmony OS on its devices. This operating system would not be limited only to phones, since the brand would use it in other devices such as tablets, computers, televisions or wearables. The idea is that it is a multiplatform operating system.
The claim that this operating system is almost at the level of Android is surprising. Do not forget that last April the founder of Huawei was much more pessimistic. He commented that the company would need at least 300 years to surpass Android with its own operating system, making it clear how complicated his future was going to be, having to stop using Android and Google software.
In addition, despite the fact that yesterday they presented their new version, for now there are hardly any details about Harmony OS, since Huawei has not taught this operating system in detail. Therefore, it is difficult to imagine that it is already 70 or 80% of Android, when really so little is known about this operating system or the way it would be implemented in the brand’s phones.
We will have to wait a few months to see if Harmony OS is really ready to be used in phones and if in 2021 we will see the first Huawei devices that make use of it.
