Android 12 Developer Preview 2 is official: changes and news 1

A month ago Google launched by surprise the first version of Android 12, designed for developers, hence the surname of Developer Preview. Two weeks later a minor update was released, focused on correcting some bugs.

Now comes the second of these versions, Android 12 Developer Preview 2, which brings some news, although it is still not even a more or less stable beta. Remember that the calendar indicates that the first test version will be seen in May.

If you want to install this version we advise you not to do it on your main mobile. The procedure is simpler than on previous occasions.

What’s new in Android 12 in Developer Preview 2

The changes in this version are aimed at creators of games and applications, but there are also other interface changes that affect everyone.

Development changes

  • Expanded security for lock screen notifications– Developers will be able to configure lock screen notifications so user ID is required to view them.
  • Picture-in-Picture mode improvements– It will be possible to automatically transition the application to Picture in Picture mode and even change the image size.
  • API to manage connected devices– An interface to control connected items such as headphones, watches, etc.
  • Rounded corner support: new API to know if a mobile has rounded corners of the screen and adapt the interface of an application to that fact.
