And it is that users informed both Microsoft and AMD that after installing Windows 11 their computers offered a lower than usual performance. High latency and memory problems that have caused AMD to put the batteries and work in the corresponding patches that fix the problem.
Two updates to fix the bug
In fact, it was the same company AMD that confirmed the news. Ryzen processors were seeing their performance diminish. There could be cases in which the drop was up to 15%.
The problem had its origin in the latency of the L3 cache, which could triple what could cause 3-5% lower performance in most of the affected applications.
This teams experience problems also with the so-called “preferred kernel” (preferred core), which aims to switch threads to the fastest core of a processor. A performance drop that could be 10-15% for some games.
With this data on the table, AMD has not been slow to react and Reddit a statement appears in a thread stating that They will release two updates to correct these bugs.
The first will arrive on October 19 and will focus on fixing the bugs that affect the L3 cache. Later another update will arrive, on October 21, focused on solving the problem with the preferred kernels.
This update should appear on computers with Ryzen processors via “Windows Update” within “Updates and security”.
Patch Tuesday exacerbates failures
And it is that the problem has also worsened with the arrival of the Patch Tuesday. From TechPowerUp have measured the latency of the L3 cache of the Ryzen 7 2700X processor after the update on October 12. The figure obtained has reached 31.9 ns which far exceeds the 17 ns of Windows 11 in the original release and let alone 10 ns with Windows 10.
