You’ve probably heard of the phablet before, but don’t know what it is. It’s time for you to learn all about these great devices.

Phablet here, phablet there, you might be wondering what it is. Or if it’s the tablet but you heard it wrong or the word was mispronounced. Rest assured, you weren’t dreaming, the phablet really does exist and this article will introduce the essential information about this device.

The XXL smartphone

The name phablet comes from the English word phablet. The latter, to find out what it is, is divided into 2. Then we get “phone” (for phone) and “tablet” (for tablet). Simply put, we can say that the phablet is a combination between a smartphone and a tablet.

Specifically, a phablet is an XXL smartphone. It has a 5 to 7 inch screen. The touch screen (from the tablet) and 3G / 4G connectivity (from the smartphone) are offered by the phablet.

Smartphone, tablet and phablet

The first difference between these 3 devices refers to the size of the screen. For a tablet, it is greater than or equal to 7 inches. The smartphone is equipped with a screen less than or equal to 5 inches. And for the phablet, the size is between 5.1 and 6.9 inches.
However, screen size isn’t everything.

The smartphone

Also called “smartphone”, it is much more affordable compared to the other 2 devices.
The tablet
Usually a tablet cannot have a SIM card. It is not designed for texting or making calls. However, there are some models that allow users to insert a SIM card.

The phablet

It can be identified as a large smartphone or a small tablet with a SIM card. The phablet has the functionality of a smartphone but with a little more visual comfort. This is, of course, wireless connectivity (bluetooth, wifi), but also 3G / 4G and telephone communications.

Its advantages and disadvantages.

The phablet inherited the advantages and disadvantages of the smartphone and tablet.

The advantages

As mentioned above, compared to a smartphone, it offers more visual comfort. Thanks to its large screen, it allows good readability. Viewing photos and videos, or writing / reading an SMS is more comfortable with a phablet than with a smartphone.
It causes less clutter than a tablet and is also much lighter.

The drawbacks

It is visually comfortable only compared to a smartphone and not a tablet. In fact, the bigger the screen, the greater the visual comfort.
The phablet is less practical and less nomadic than a smartphone. It barely fits in pants pockets (unless the pockets are big enough). Therefore, it is more appreciable to put them in a handbag.

As said before, the price of a phablet has a disadvantage compared to that of a smartphone.
