It’s official, Legends of Runeterrathe new card game from Riotis available on both iOS and Android. It is an ambitious proposal to the hands of the creators of League of Legends. We were able to test the game before the launch, so we will give you our impressions after some time playing it on Android.
So how is this proposal that comes to stoking the genre GCC (Collectible Card Games), in the territory of rivals like the Hearthstone from Blizzard, Artifact of Valve or The Elder Scrolls: Legends.
Enough 10 minutes to understand it all, which is good news
Legends of Runeterra is a game of card turn in which the main objective is to end up with the Nexus of our enemy. We will achieve this goal by playing different cards, with the aim of attacking the opponent and win the game. One of the points differential of LoR is that the gameplay leaves behind the randomness that sometimes is implied at the level of the spells or skills, to focus on the mechanics of attack from a point of view more technical.
As is usual in this type of games, we have a shift system, a certain amount of mana for each turn, and various cards to play depending on the resources that we have. There is a turn of attack, and a turn of defense so, when we drop letters to attack us, our goal will be to frenarlas. Each letter occupies its own space and will attack the in front of. That is to say, if we drop a letter 2/2 and we have a card with lower values, the destroyed, and vice versa. We must take advantage of the gaps not covered to attack, as well as to make use of the various spells and abilities of the characters to play in our favor.
Each character has their different abilities, which we can combine with other cards, boost by spells, in addition to the striking mechanics of “evolve”that allows the champions to increase their attack power and defense or to add beneficial skills to face to win the game.
One of the most positive points of Legends of Runeterra is that, despite this being its first release, the visuals are quite careful. The animations of the cards, the boards and others, although there is room for improvement, give a good experience.
In the menu you will find the different options in the mode to play, you can play against AI (good option for practice, although strange having a game mode, not qualifying), the classic ranked, various expeditions and the way of tutorials. The expeditions are bought using gold and gems, so that we would have liked to have some form of access to expeditions free to earn some rewards.
As negative points, the mechanical is perhaps too dense. Here we do not find a turn of opponent and your own turn per se. Everything is set in rounds, and in each round we have a coming and going of letters. The opponent puts cards, defend, cast spells, he attacks, you begin to handle, etc
It is a combat system a bit slow, although after a few games we do to him. Being so slow also benefits the last turns of the game. When you have to focus on searching for the hole (and defend our own), the last turns are an amalgam of creatures strong enough to destrozándose each other, looking for the maximum damage to break the nexus enemy.
In a nutshell, Legends of Runeterra is posed as a free alternative within the genus CCGwith plenty of travel, fun and with a rather good performance despite being her first release. The launch of the game coincides with the expansion of high Tide, which include new cards and content.
