Xiaomi mobile phones in Spain will have the BBVA app pre-installed

The economic crisis caused by the pandemic has left its mark on many sectors, including banking. In Spain we are seeing a consolidation among banking entities that seek to maximize their profits. For this, many are entering the online options.

An example is BBVA, which knows that the future, and part of the present, passes through mobile devices. Thus, it has signed an agreement with Xiaomi in Spain.

As announced by the Chinese manufacturer in a press release, the company’s mobile phones sold in Spain will have this bank’s application installed as standard. In addition, the models that have already been sold will see it implemented in future OTAs, so the vast majority of users will have this app on their mobiles.

Among the models that will receive it are the Mi Note 10, Redmi Note 9, Redmi Note 8, Mi 9T, Mi 10 Lite, Mi 9 Lite, Redmi 8 and some more not specified.

The positive part is that, as Xiaomi herself has made clear, users who do not want to use it will be able to uninstall it easily

as it will not count as a system application.

The aggressiveness of the banks is affecting other sectors such as consumer technology and hopefully this is not a common practice. Users had already complained about having applications pre-installed on their mobile services that they might not use, as for now having to deal with bank applications on a mandatory basis.

Xiaomi has indicated that this agreement has an initial duration of twelve months, and that it is the first collaboration of the brand with a bank in Europe, so if it is successful we may see more.

In addition to Spain, the collaboration will also take place in Mexico. It is possible that in the future it will expand to other subsidiaries of the BBVA Group later on.
