Wireless Android Auto finally comes to every BMW with an OTA update

After a first version released in July, BMW is bringing Android Auto to vehicles with that operating system. And you no longer have to go through the workshop to enjoy the connection without cables: the wireless mode arrives with OTA 7/20 update of BMW software.

Android Auto is one of the most popular versions of the system among users, even despite not being the majority in vehicles. Designed to facilitate the interaction of the car screen and the phone, this communion favors not only entertainment in the car, it also increases safety since Android Auto avoids a remarkable amount of distractions behind the wheel. Of course, it has an annoyance: having to connect the devices with a cable, a problem that is gradually solved with the wireless version.

Wireless Android Auto with Software Upgrade 7/20

News reached us last July that BMW was updating Android Auto with wireless mode after vehicles passed through the workshop. This implied that the owners had to take advantage of the revisions to update their system; or take the vehicle to the workshop to get wireless Android Auto, a step that could involve a cost. Now everything changes as the wireless mode arrives with an update to the BMW operating system.

Just like confirms BMW itself, the brand has just released the largest software update for more than 750,000 of its vehicles. This update, marked with version 7/20, arrives via OTA to significantly improve the experience in vehicles. BMW improves navigation with its maps, updates the brand’s personal assistant, Add eDrive Zones (to activate the electric mode automatically in those cars that have batteries), update Apple CarPlay and renew Android Auto with the aforementioned wireless mode, among other novelties.

The update is coming to all vehicles compatible with version 7 of the BMW operating system (cars marketed as of 2018). The route of arrival is Remote Software Upgrade, the OTA update system that the brand’s cars have.
