WhatsApp will improve the security of data copies in the cloud

Although WhatsApp is not one of the applications that changes the most over time (at least if we compare it with Telegram), it is true that every few weeks we have news, functions or internal operation of the service, as is the case.

Today WABetaInfo has confirmed that WhatsApp is working on encrypting backups in the cloud through the use of passwords.

More security for WhatsApp backups

Currently the database of the chats that we create in the application is encrypted (not the photos, audios and videos), but the algorithm is reversible and it is not encrypted from one end to the other.

With the novelty that the service is preparing, the data of the chats and multimedia files will be safe from unauthorized access by using a password that we will establish. In this way, we can secure the backups in the cloud as well as the backup that we can do locally on Android.

The password will be private and is not sent to WhatsApp so we cannot forget it or we will not have access to the encrypted data. It is something similar to what happens with the PUK of our SIM card.

This new feature will be available in a future version for iOS and Android, although at the moment there is no release date, nor in the beta version.
