We continue to discover what news awaits us in future WhatsApp updates, from the hand of WaBetaInfo. This time, it’s about two enhancements to previously released features: the group video calls and the protection of chats by fingerprint.
In video calls, WhatsApp works in a way to allow you join a missed group video call, as long as it remains in progress, while chat protection is gearing up to be more universal: it will also accept other types of available biometrics, such as facial recognition.
In WhatsApp, if someone calls you and you do not answer in time, it happens the same as in normal calls: you will be sent a notice that you have a missed call. This changes slightly for group calls: even if you don’t answer, the call can continue with other participants.
That is where the novelty that WhatsApp is cooking comes in, and that is if someone includes you in a group call and you do not answer it in time, you can join later the next time you open the application and as long as the call is still in progress, of course.
Another change that is coming to WhatsApp is related to biometrics. WhatsApp for iOS is prepared to protect chats with Face ID facial recognition, on Android WhatsApp only mentions the fingerprint protection.
This is what will change soon, allowing the protection of chats through fingerprint, facial recognition or “other unique identifiers”. We will have to wait to test it, although in principle it should be for terminals with secure facial recognition with special sensors.
