A few days ago WhatsApp communicated to us its intention to promote purchases through the application. This is one of the least invasive ways to monetize the service, without the need for advertising or paywalls.
In this way, businesses could have a new sales channel and the platform can generate income.
Companies have long been able to create catalogs on WhatsApp to sell through the application itself. The novelty is that this catalog will now be available from the conversation chat, and it is not necessary to go to the company’s profile to see it.
This new button replaces the call button, which is now merged with the video call button, serving the telephone icon for both purposes. It has the shape of a store and in the image above it is seen in the first capture.
As you can see in the first video, a couple of taps on the screen is what separates us from any item in the catalog of a company with which we are chatting in the app.
In the second video we can see what the complete purchase process is like, beyond how we got to the catalog.
The new catalog button is already reaching business profiles in Spain so if you chat with a company that has it active you can use it.
It is clear that the future of the platform depends largely on increasing the interaction not only between people, but between companies and people, for now with sales, but perhaps in the future with new functions.
The WhatsApp entry opens a store button in its application in Spain, it appears first in El Androide Libre.
