We tested Quibi: if Netflix and YouTube would have a son would like this app to view sets of 10 minutes on the mobile

Quibi it is a new platform of video on demand which has just landed in Spain, to surprise and with a selection of content more interesting, is planted as an alternative quite different from what we’re used to, like a hybrid between Netflix and YouTube, but with a twist additional.

You see, in Quibi you’re going to find short content, series or reality shows with episodes of roughly 10 minutes duration, and that you can only look at from your mobile phone. It is entertainment thought to consume quickly and in small bites, and is extremely well-made.

We can all use it for free for three months

Quibi 1

Probably the best of Quibi is that it came directly with a free trial period is extremely long in comparison with other offers, we have 90 days to enjoy the service without paying a pennyand in return , we have access to a lot good quality content.

To use Quibi, you must download the app to iOS or Android and create a account in a few seconds. We are going to ask for only email, date of birth, gender, and a payment method for automatic payment of 8.99 euros per month that would normally cost. You can cancel at any time.

The subscription of Quibi cost 8.99 euros per month, but you can use it free for 90 days

Though there is no app made especially for iPadwe can use the iPhone version on the tablet if we want to see the shows in horizontal screen a little bigger. The content fits very well in any orientation, and that is a great achievement of this app.

Content short but sweet

Quibi 2

Now, although Quibi is a app content for the mobile, it has nothing to do with social networks such as TikTok or Instagrambecause here the content is created solely by and for the platform.

Although its main attractions are the original series, or “movies in chapters” as they have called a number of productions, they also have news programs and other varieties of channels that we are used to seeing on platforms such as YouTube, and which bring more variety to the platform.

Quibi has miniseries, documentaries, reality shows and “movies in chapters”

Quibi promises brand new shows every week, but since input have series, documentaries and reality shows starring famous figures like Sophie Turner, Jennifer Lopez, Kristen Bell, Chrissy Tiegien, Liam Hemsworth, Tituss Burgess, Will Forte, Eva Longoria, Andy Garcia, LeBron James, Sasha Velourand many more that appear as guests.

The level of the productions is note quite high with only see a few series, everything is designed to consume quickly, and clinging fast with a content which encapsulates very well what you want to convey and that it is ideal for when we don’t want to engage with marathons of series eternal or films of two hours.

Vertical and horizontal, it looks all good in any way

Quibi 3

Another great achievement of Quibi is something that takes time playing on YouTube but that has not really gone anywhere in the last few years: the content vertical. Quibi adapts surprisingly good, but without taking away the option to view in landscape at the same time.

It was one of the biggest surprises to test the platform, how well are the programs regardless of the orientation of screen you choose. The quality of the video is not of another world but still looks very good. In addition to taking into account only what you can see on the phone (my screen is not the best), and the current situation with the saturation of networks, we are not asking too much.

All the content is in English with Spanish subtitles

In Spain maybe to a few they bother you that all the content is in English, same as the interface of the application, however, the series have subtitles in Spanish that also fit perfectly to the screen is vertical or horizontal.

Quibi 4 You can download content to view offline, and barely take up any storage space

The app is simple and easy to use, the content is to the front. In the beginning you will see the selection of the day to you in the form of cards sliding, and there is play trailers automatically.

In the next section we have options to browse through the various categories, and in the next we see of the shows you follow. You can follow all that you want and also you can download content to view offline that goes to your own downloads section.

Quibi, the opinion of Engadget

Quibi ‘Survive’ – Photo by Quibi

When I first read about this app honestly I didn’t think I was going to find a great thing, I’ve never been a fan of watching content on the mobile, I prefer my tele big and I prefer the type of content that is made for my tele great.

The issue is that Quibi is quite unique in that aspect, and that is that the content has the quality and the level of a lot of fact for that tele bigbut condensed to see in the mobile in 10 minutes without that tire my hand from holding the device in the same position.

I also hoped that the content would be a great thing, but I was pleasantly surprisedafter eat me an episode of four shows different travels to the bathroom to meditate, I ended up hooked with a couple of reality shows completely ridiculous but hilarious (‘Dishmantled‘and ‘Chrissy”s Court‘), the drama ‘Survive‘with Sansa Jonas, and this show of rich celebrities giving away money.

My only complaints have to do with the decision to launch an app for the Spanish market without translating the interface even, this is going to annoy a lot of people and take others back. And personally I would like to at least be able to send the content to the Chromecast, although this app is not designed for that, I still prefer large screens and I would like to see this interesting content on another site that was not mobile.

Don’t have to take my word for it, they can test yourselves with this trial period is extremely long, which also serve to verify that promise of shows are new every week, from this are 11 weeks free to be a witness if the platform meets.

This is especially important given that for now, the catalog is not very large, sayand in the future when you already touch to pay 8.99 euros per month, you would be seeing little competitive and expensive compared to options that offer more for less.
