Ways to reduce data consumption in One UI

Mobile data consumption is a concern to users in Spain, who are therefore looking for different ways to reduce this consumption on their phones. Each layer of customization has its own functions, which allow reducing such consumption, as we have seen in EMUI, for example. Also Samsung’s One UI has its own methods.

If you want reduce mobile data consumption in Samsung’s One UI, as well as having a better management of them, there are a series of options that we can resort to. Thanks to them, we have less data consumption and we also obtain greater control over the use we make of them.

One UI data saving

One of the most essential functions to be able to save mobile data in One UI is to activate system data saving. Like most current customization layers, Samsung’s has its own data saver, which we can activate from the settings. This is a function that will reduce the consumption of mobile data, although it can make the connection in some cases slower. The steps for its activation are:

  1. Open the phone settings.
  2. Enter Connections.
  3. Click on Data Usage.
  4. Activate Data Saver.

Control data usage

When we want to know which applications are consuming the most data on the phone, there are several methods to use, one of them in the settings themselves. The data usage section is one of the most useful in One UI

, because we will be able to manage and control the use of mobile data at all times, knowing which applications consume the most. This can help us take action, in case we notice that this data usage is greater than you should know.
  1. Open the settings.
  2. Enter the Connections section.
  3. Click on Data usage.
  4. Check the usage statistics.

Turn off background data

An important aspect to reduce data consumption is check which apps use the most data in the background. Since it is one of the ways in which that consumption is triggered the most on the phone. Once we have verified which apps are the ones that use the most data in One UI, as we have seen in the previous step, we can limit their operation in the background, so that said consumption will be less. The steps to activate this are:

  1. Open the settings.
  2. Enter Connections.
  3. Click on Data usage.
  4. Go to the section on Use of mobile data.
  5. Tap on the app whose data usage you want to reduce.
  6. Disable the “Allow background data usage” option.

Configure which apps work with mobile data in One UI

There is a function in One UI that is intended so that certain applications always use mobile dataeven when you are on a WiFi network. You may have activated this feature and are currently using it on your phone. That is why it is best to control which applications have this option activated, because it can assume that they are using more mobile data than desired, because they always work with data. The steps to check and configure the rest are:

  1. Open the settings.
  2. Enter Connections.
  3. Click on Data usage.
  4. Go to the Apps section only with mobile data.
  5. Check if it is activated.
  6. If activated, select which applications can have it.
  7. If you don’t want to use this option, disable it directly at the top.

Saving data in applications

A function that is not exclusive to One UI or a personalization layer, but which is important to use in order to reduce that consumption of mobile data. Many applications on Android, more and more, have some kind of data saving mode. Think of apps like social networks, Google Chrome, Spotify and others. Using this function will reduce this data consumption in an effective way, especially in those apps that you use more frequently.

So it may be worth activating this option in applications that have it, in order to have less data consumption without too much effort. Using it may make some photos, videos or web pages load a little slower, but it does not usually affect the user experience.

The entry Ways to reduce data consumption in One UI appears first in The Free Android.
