The Fire TV Cube is one of the devices from this Amazon range available in Spain. Thanks to this device that we can connect to a television, both Smart TV and not, we can enjoy all the advantages of Alexa, Amazon’s assistant, as well as access a multitude of online content services. The brand has now launched an interesting update for this device, expanding its functions.

Since users will be able to connect a webcam to make video calls from this Fire TV Cube from Amazon. A way to stay in touch with friends and family. They follow the steps of Google TV, which officially introduced a similar support a couple of months ago.

The update that Amazon rolls out introduces support for external webcams in this Fire TV Cube, so that you can make video calls on your TV, thus enjoying a larger panel during them. Not just any webcam is compatible, as a series of requirements have been established, which are:

  • The webcam has to be UVC compliant.
  • Minimum resolution: 720p.
  • Capture rate of at least 30 fps.

Normally, webcams use a USB A type connector, so that you will need a micro USB adapterin order to make this connection. Also, Amazon has mentioned a list with webcam that are compatible with this new feature: Logitech C920, Logitech C922x, Logitech C310, Aukey PC-LM1E and Wansview 101JD.

This feature is already rolling out among users in the United States with this Fire TV Cube. From The Free Android we have been contact with Amazon Spain to know if this function will also arrive in Spain or not. When we get a response from you, we will update this post.

How they are activated

If you already have all the items mentioned above (the webcam and the adapter) and your Fire TV Cube device has already obtained this update, you can enjoy these video calls on your television. Although to start using them you have to follow a few steps, you have to configure them first. The steps to follow are:

  1. Open the Alexa app.
  2. Go to the devices tab.
  3. Activate messages and calls.
  4. Find your Fire TV Cube.
  5. Activate the communication button and the Drop In function.
  6. Link your contacts with the Alexa app.
  7. Import contacts.
