Last year Xiaomi launched its own health application called My Health, which we can also download in Spain. This application of the brand has a series of common functions in health applications (counting steps, sleep control or menstrual cycle control). Although the application updates it now with an interesting new feature.

Xiaomi has started rolling out a new update to the app in China, although it is expected to reach more countries soon. In it, an interesting function is introduced, thanks to which the heart rate measurement using the camera of the telephone.

Since an activity bracelet or watch is not always used, Xiaomi Mi Health introduces this function so that we can measure the heart rate directly from the phone. In order to use this function, the app uses the phone flash as a continuous light source, thus replacing the laser normally found in bracelets. In this way, changes are recorded thanks to the phone’s camera, as well as software that analyzes the image.

To use this function in My Health, you have to open the new heart rate section in it. It shows the steps to follow to carry out this measurement. It just takes your finger to the phone can collect this data.Since all you have to do is cover the camera and flash with your finger, until the progress bar reaches 100%.

When the heart rate has been measured, the application will ask us to define the current state, to record this data (if we are at rest or not or if we have just done sports). Then the application will indicate if that rhythm or pulse is normal, as well as show a graph.

This function in the app will be introduced in version 2.47 of Xiaomi Mi Health, whose deployment has already begun in China. Although it will take a while to be available worldwide, so for now you have to continue entering the pulse manually in the application, unless a bracelet or activity watch is used for it.
