The VPN networks are other “winners” of the quarantine: their business use has grown by 165%

The sudden increase in employees from all over the world forced from the night to the morning to telework from their homes by the crisis of the coronavirus has caused several changes in the patterns of use of networks and applications. The increased use of video conferencing applications it has been the most commented onbut there is another technology that also is benefiting from this situation: virtual private networks or VPN (virtual private networks).

The reason for this is that the VPNs business allow their users to securely connect to the corporate networks to make use of files and applications internal remotely: a measure that provides safety because the connection is carried out through a ‘door’ controlled by the company (although it does not prevent attacks through devices already committed).

The latest data show an increase of 95% in Spain

The use of VPNs, too, is being promoted by the public administrations. In Spain, for example, the government of the Canary Islands has increased to 30,000 remote access the ability of your VPNallowing -for example – that the Official Bulletin of the Canary islands is developed entirely by resorting to teleworking.

In the case of public employees of the regional government of Andalusia, your use of VPN connections has risen by 553% compared to the previous days to the quarantine.

One of the major suppliers of this sector, NordVPN, have been made public the data handled by, and indicate that the use of VPNs, business has increased an average of 165% since the march 11. Of course, these figures are very much higher in some countries such as the Netherlands, where the increase of users has been 240%, according to data from NordVPN.

They are also above the average for the data of Austria (208%), Canada (206%) and France, Belgium and Denmark (the three located between 189% and 190%). In the case of Spain, this increase stood at 95%.

The US and the Uk are still located in figures discrete, 66% and 48% respectively, but the experts of NordVPN predict similar increases to those of other countries as they are imposed on both nations containment measures more stringent.

Another leading company in the sector, Atlas VPN, offered a week ago their own data

, which differ markedly from those of NordVPN (they are also not comparable, because of the difference in dates), but in any case continue to show a significant increase in the use of this technology: attributed to France, an increase of only 21%, and Spain’s 36%, while Italy, where more advanced was the epidemic, the increase was of 112%.

Here is the chart made public by Statista using the Atlas data VPN:

Disney+ discounted 69,99 € 59,99 euros for a year: limited offer until 23 march
