The function of avoid distractions while walking take the leap from the Google Pixel to the rest of mobiles that have Android Digital Wellbeing: “Look ahead” can now be configured from the phone settings. Once configured, an alert will appear each time the system detects that the mobile screen is being viewed in motion.
Every time we use the phone while doing anything else we put ourselves at risk due to the enormous distraction of looking at the screen. Obviously, using it while driving is a reckless act that should not be done (and that carries serious penalties). And neither should the mobile phone be combined with the walks: as many people know well, the streetlights do not warn. Therefore, it never hurts to configure an alert like the one that Android already offers natively.
Your Android can remind you to pay attention to what is in front of you
The warning against distractions while walking was already present in the Google Pixels. Its specific name is “Look at the front” (“Heads up” in English). Once configured, and whenever the mobile detects that it is moving, a notification will appear on the screen remembering that screen gazing distractions are dangerous.
Digital Wellbeing does not lock the phone if it detects movement, nor does it close the applications or insist that the user turn off their mobile. The notification you send is minimal, the system only seeks to highlight the danger without alarming. And the alert works in two phases: first, a notification appears on the screen as the mobile detects movement; second, “Look ahead” remember not to look at the screen while walking.

The show is coming to all mobiles that have the native Android Digital Wellbeing. To configure it, you must perform the following steps:
- Go to your mobile settings and go to ‘Digital Wellbeing’.
- Enter ‘Look ahead’.
- Accept setup and motion detection.
- Additionally, you can improve the accuracy of alerts using GPS. Activate that option and then choose ‘Always’ in the location permission for Digital Wellbeing.
Whether or not you have a Google Pixel, you can now use the “Look ahead” notices on your Android thanks to Digital Wellbeing. In itself, it does not do much more than warn you of the obvious, but it never hurts to receive that notification since, we have so internalized the use of the telephone, that we do not even realize when we have it in our hands.
