The services in the Microsoft cloud experienced an increase of 775% in the regions confined

With millions of people confined to their homes all over the worldplatforms such as Netflix, YouTube or Amazon Prime Video have had to reduce the quality the content to be able to cope with the increased traffic in these weeks of quarantine.

Microsoft, for its part, this week-end reported that their cloud services have experienced a huge spike in the use, due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

Temporary restrictions on Xbox Live

The company reported that the use of services such as Microsoft Teams, Windows Virtual Desktop and Power BI has increased by 775% in those regions in which it has imposed social distancing.

The same happens with products of Amazon, part of the Microsoft technology has become a crucial element in the midst of the crisis of the coronavirus, because millions of people are working or playing from their homes.

In the case of the Microsoft service Teamsthe company has stated that the use of this service has increased by 37% compared with previous weeks. The figures give a bit of vertigo, with 900 million minutes of use a day.

It is something that we have seen on platforms that are competitors of Microsoft, as the case may be, of Zoom: an app in a matter of days it has become essential in companies, groups of friends and also in the political world.

“People go to the games by their social connection”

Not all productivity in life, and Xbox Live (service games company) is having figures of record. In the words of Microsoft itself, “people go to the games by their social connection”.

Due to the high use of this platform, Microsoft has also had to temporarily disable some of its functions, as is the case of the rise of gamer pictures, photos and club funds clubs custom.

What is clear is that we are living a peak is “unprecedented” in the use of certain services. It is something I already pointed out last week Satya Nadella (CEO of Microsoft) in an interview granted to CNBC.

Nadella said that the back-end systems of the company are holding up well: “if it were a previous generation of architectures of data centers or software architectures, I don’t think we would have been able to cope with this crisis as effectively as we have done.”
