Deciding among the large number of mobiles available in Spain is a difficult task, especially if you are looking for the best of the best. Most of the technical sheets are practically the same and aspects such as photography depend so much on the software that it is not always easy to know when a mobile phone has a better or worse camera, being DxOMark one of the reference sites to know the quality of each new mobile camera that goes on the market.

DxOMark now dares with screens

DxOMark is a company that was once dedicated to evaluating cameras and photography lenses, and with the wave of mobile launches it has grown widely in popularity. For a few years they have been measuring, under their own tests, an exhaustive number of parameters to determine the quality of the cameras, and over time they have been expanding theirbenchmark to selfies and audio. And they are not willing to stop there.

This company has gone on to evaluate screens, determining under a new degree of criteria the quality of each screen of the mobiles they test. Specifically, this test evaluates the following parameters:

• Ease of reading.
• Colour.
• Video.
• Movement.
• Tactile feedback.
• Artifacts.

The truth is that the evaluation of DxOMark on mobile screens is very different from those of DisplayMate, a long-standing company when it comes to screen evaluation. However, the DisplayMate evaluations are very dense (and therefore more accurate) but the DxOMark one allows a user without extensive knowledge to have the basic information they need to know.

And what have been the best mobiles in this first evaluation? Here are the 9 phones they have evaluated:

2. OnePlus 8 Pro: 88 points.
3. Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G: 87 points.
4. Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max: 84 points.
5. TCL 10 Pro: 83 points.
6. Oppo Find X2 Pro: 76 points.
7. Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra: 73 points.
8. Asus ROG Phone 3:
   70 points.
9. Xiaomi Black Shark 3 Pro: 61 points.

Is the bad name really deserved?

DxOMark tests have been very controversial in the past for giving very high scores to mobiles that later in the real world did not have such a good camera for ordinary users. Many people have even hinted that brands pay DxOMark for scores, a judgment that from our point of view has little room.

The company, in addition to evaluating cameras, offers services to help calibrate the cameras, which ultimately results in the cameras getting better scores. Basically it is like paying a teacher to teach you exactly the content that goes into the exam, which is very different from paying to be approved.

Finally, the DxOMark tests, although exhaustive, are not perfect, and the reason for this is that in addition to the new screen test, they have also created a new version of their photography test, which updates each of the tests, add preview to highlights and move zoom and ultra wide angle to a separate category.
