The last goodbye to Gingerbread: can no longer log into Google

The latest version of Android Gingerbread, version 2.3.7 was released in September 2011, that is, a decade ago. If you still have an old phone that uses Gingerbread, you will no longer be able to log in with Google.

This change is not surprising, since a few months ago the end of Google Play services support for Jelly Bean (the one from ICS ended in 2018), but it is the last nail in the coffin for a version of the operating system from ten years ago.

Unable to use Google apps in Gingerbread

To be honest, continuing to use a mobile with Android Gingerbread today is the least complicated. The support for Google Play services ended in 2017, which means that from that moment on it was only a matter of time before Google services will stop working completely.

Not only that, but some applications that do not require Google services to work, like WhatsApp, too have stopped supporting Gingerbread. If, even with everything, you kept insisting on using a mobile with Android 2.3.7 or earlier, now it will be impossible to login with Google account.

So did Google know a few months ago in their forums: from September 27 you will receive username and password errors when trying to log in on a device with Android 2.3.7 or earlier. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about it except upgrade to a higher version, something that will be impossible in the vast majority of cases. The only alternative is to load the web version in the browser.

Google does not update its Android version distribution data for over a year now, and by then Android Gingerbread no longer appeared, which means it was on less than 1% of all active devices

back then, and it would be logical to think that the percentage would be even less today. The few that remain active can no longer use Google applications.
