The Google Play Store changes its interface on Android TV

When Google introduced the Chromecast with Google TV, many of us were surprised to see an interface that was not the one we had on Android TV. Google’s product focus was on streaming, but that was seen much more clearly than in the challenge of similar Android devices.

A few days later, the company confirmed that, in the future, all Android TV would have that same interface, friendlier for the use of remote controls and where multimedia content would have more prominence.

Today we have seen a first step in that direction by checking that the Android TV app and game store has been updated.

Google Play Store for Android TV looks like Google TV

The top caption can be a bit confusing but it is exactly what is happening. Google has updated the Google Play Store for Android TV, the application we use to download apps and games, with a new interface.

This interface is very reminiscent of Google TV, the interface used by the latest Chromecast, although on that device the interface is for the entire system and here it is only for the download app.

We have a search engine at the top, a simpler configuration of options that may interest us and in the last row a differentiation by categories, in case we are looking for an app to do something but we don’t know which one to download.

This update is coming automatically to all devices with Android TV, from the set top boxes of brands such as Xiaomi or Nokia, for example, to televisions from multiple manufacturers, such as Xiaomi, Phillips or Sony, among others.

We will have to wait a little longer to see the transformation of the Android TV interface in which Google TV has, as the only negative point we remember that it does not have direct access to the application store.
