The Google Assistant will tell you where your contacts are

One of the lesser known functions of Google Maps, although no less useful for that, is to be able to share our location with our contacts. Perfect if we are in a dangerous situation or if we simply want them to know where we are on a long trip.

Now this function is updated by integrating into the Google assistant.

Ask the Google Assistant where your friends and family are

After the option to share the location comes an integration with the Google assistant, which we can ask where a specific person is. If that person has shared the location with us, they will show us the map.

In the event that we ask for a contact and it exists but has not shared the location, we can make a request by pressing on the screen. If that person sees it and accepts it, we can already know where it is.

This option is being used by some users who have seen a surprise notification reminding them that they can ask the assistant for the location of their contacts.

We do not have it active yet and it may only work in english for nowAlthough sooner rather than later it should reach wizard users in other languages. If you want to test if it appears to you, you can activate the option in Google Maps:

1. Open Google Maps.
2. Click on your profile picture.
3. Click on the Share location option.
4. Accept the permissions.
5. Choose who to send your location to.
6. If you want to send it through other apps, select the app and then the contact to send it to.

Remember that a similar function is available in WhatsApp, in case you want to use it with people who do not usually open Google Maps but you know that they do use the messaging app frequently. Y don’t forget to cancel the action when you don’t want to share your location anymore.
