The crisis of the coronavirus has caused a flood of new creators (and charged) on Patreon

The pandemic coronavirus (and the detentions and closure of borders that has generated) is preventing a lot of people, the length and width of the world, to earn the bread that I had been doing up to now. Among these sectors are the content creatorsforced to suspend exhibitions, to cancel tours, to postpone launches of books, etc

In this context, the search for new channels that enable them to monetize their work at a distance becomes something urgent: and many have begun to look forward to new online platforms that allows them to interact directly with their fans and with potential fans.

And in that area for some time been highlighting the work of Patreon, a service that allows users to become micro-patrons of their content creators favorites.

What indicated the data of Patreon?

Maura Church, director of data science of Patreon, he decided to take a look at the details of your platform to see what trends were pointing, discovering that only in the first three weeks of march had ‘jumped the boat’ more than 30,000 new creators, adding more of 150.0000.

And not only that: although the economic situation might make you think that the number of micromecenazgos also would experience a downturn, it has not been so.

That is to say, the Church itself detects a number of cancellations somewhat higher than usual (many users listed explicitly as a reason coronavirus), but not so much as to overshadow the sudden growth in the number of new commitments of funding (and new users in general), that has allowed to increase the net earnings of creators, compared to the same period of the last month

:

“We started to see a change of behavior at the platform on Friday, march 13. The average growth of new customers in the USA, Uk, Canada, Germany, Australia and Italy increased by 36.2% in comparison with February, which indicates that the fans are turning to Patreon to support the creators during this difficult time.”

Rate of growth of the number of micro-patrons.

Since then, not only the rate of ‘recruitment’ of creators of the platform is the largest in its historybut the proportion of those creators that add up to its first customer during the first 10 days since its registration has also gone up, which means that the new artists who just jump on the boat of Patreon are taking a hit unusual to add support.

Disney+ is here: try it free for 7 days. After, 6,99 euros a month or 69,99 euros the annual subscription.
