Although folding mobiles have only been around for two years, it seems that the industry is already looking further afield, with even more attractive proposals, such as rolling or extendable mobiles.
Both LG and OPPO have shown functional prototypes and could be launched in a few years, and even months.
It seems that Samsung, which is currently leading the folding mobile industry, does not want to be left out, and its CEO has confirmed in a call with investors that his company is working on these new form factors.
We have the first of the clues in one of the patents that the firm has licensed, where we see a mobile that unfolds from two sides.
As always, the fact that a brand has a patent does not mean that it is going to develop a mobile with that exact shape, but it confirms that it is something they work on.
It could be the case that Samsung created these screens with the idea of selling them to other manufacturers, but obviously it would be strange if it did not previously use them in its own models, as we have seen on other occasions with flexible panels.
Something similar happens with some conceptual images that have been seen in some Samsung design videos. From there these captures that we see in the lower image have been extracted that show us a mobile that folds twice and a rolling model that is housed in a cylinder.
For now, we will have to keep waiting but at the rate at which we are seeing innovations in 2021, we would not rule out that a model with this form factor would go on sale throughout this year.
The entry The CEO of Samsung confirms that they will also have rolling phones appears first in The Free Android.
