The best of 2020 in technology: mobiles, applications, accessories and much more (Iván)

In Spain, with the arrival of Christmas, we are already closing the year, a moment in which we look back at the course of the year, a 2020 that despite everything, has been unique.

In technology and consumer electronics we have had several important launches, both at the level of mobile phones, accessories, applications, games and services. Today I summarize those that for me would be the most relevant of 2020.

Best cheap mobile: Poco X3

Watch video

The Xiaomi sub-brand revolutionized 2018 with the Pocophone F1, and after a 2019 in absolute silence, during this year they have launched a large number of mobiles. The most remarkable of them all would be the Poco X3.

It is a mobile that is large, with an exceptional battery, a lot of power and fluidity, NFC connectivity and a camera system that is really good at its price.

Best mobile user experience: Google Pixel 4a

The Google Pixel 4a is the only mobile that Google has launched in Spain during 2020, and although its relationship between specifications and price is far from being the best, it is a mobile that in the user experience has shown us to be very capable.

By size and weight, it is the easiest Android mobile to handle. At the performance level it is a medium / high range, but the optimization of the software means that you never think about the processor it has or how much RAM it includes. The camera is as good as any other Pixel and is so good that you just have to point, shoot and have a perfect picture.

High-end that has surprised me the most: Asus Zenfone 7

2020 is full of high-end phones, but the one that has surprised me the most is the Asus Zenfone 7. It is a device that, without being excessively expensive, has a screen of exceptional quality, magnificent performance and a layer of personalization that it respects the aesthetics of pure Android with some extra customization options.

The differential aspect of this mobile is its triple motorized camera system, which allows us to use the most advanced cameras not only for day-to-day photos, but also for selfies or photographs at any type of angle.

Best tablet: Galaxy Tab S7 +

We had long wanted an Android tablet to battle Apple’s iPad Pro. Samsung has been closing the gap year after year, and while we loved them last year, we were left wanting more. More power and more screen is what the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 + has offered us, a product that I would say is the rounder in the Samsung catalog, being an exceptional tablet.

Best wireless headphones: Huawei FreeBuds Pro

Presented at the IFA in Berlin, the Huawei FreeBuds Pro seemed to us to be headphones with a clear aspiration, becoming the direct rival of Apple’s AirPods Pro, bringing a great audio experience, with spectacular spatial sound and impressive active noise cancellation. . They do not surpass Sony in this regard, but given its comfort, the intelligent functions of the application, its good latency with games and that the case has wireless charging, they have ended up becoming my favorite headphones for day to day. . Since I wrote the analysis

Honorable mention also to the Galaxy Buds + and Creative Outlier Air V2. Both are more affordable models and although they do not have active noise cancellation, they are both impressive in sound quality and battery, and during our tests we have never managed to leave them without battery, even wearing them practically all day.

Peripheral that has changed the most my relationship with mobile: Razer Kishi

With the arrival of the cold, staying home playing video games is one of my favorite activities, and in recent weeks, GeForce NOW has been the platform on which I have spent the most hours of gaming. Although the ideal setting to play at home is television, there are times when the TV in the living room is occupied by family members or roommates, or you are simply lying in bed and want to play from the warmth of the blankets.

All that has made me fall in love with the Razer Kishi, a controller that attaches to the sides, turning our mobile into a kind of Nintendo Switch (without the excellent Nintendo games, yes). Thanks to its low latency when connecting through the USB C port, my relationship as a gamer with my mobile has changed. Now it is not only that you can play on your mobile in conditions, butI want to play.

Best Home Device: Amazon Echo (4th Gen)

Amazon’s latest speaker combines a radical design change with a ton of tech, like a smart equalizer that adapts to room acoustics, an audio processor with Dolby sound, the most advanced Alexa voice recognition, and inclusion of a Zigbee switchboard, which until now was reserved for the Echo Plus.

Best streaming service: XCloud with Game Pass Ultimate

Video game streaming is in a clear moment of expansion, and Microsoft has stepped on the accelerator. After taking several months of beta, the Redmond have included the game in the cloud for Android devices as part of their Game Pass Ultimate service, which although it existed long before, was limited to Xbox and PC players.

You simply pay 12.99 euros per month and you have access to a catalog with dozens of quality games also available on consoles and PC, as well as some successful titles from Electronic Arts. You don’t need a console, because thanks to streaming your mobile can become an Xbox.

Best app: my DGT

I recognize that 2020 has not been a year in which I have tried too many applications, but the official application of the DGT is one of those that represents a before and after when it comes to living a world in which we do not have to carry a wallet always on top.

Thanks to my DGT you can carry the driving license on your mobile, being an official substitute for the classic license.

Best Game: League of Legends, Wild Rift

League of Legends has become the most successful electronic sport and game on its own merits, and due to its tenth anniversary they announced a version of the game, completely adapted to mobile phones. This is not aportInstead, the game is rethought from scratch to feel like you are living the same intense gaming experience. After having tried it, and despite being in beta, it has earned the position as the best mobile game for me in 2020.

And it has merit seeing how good Genshin Impact is.

Best Health Product: Huawei Watch Fit

The Huawei Watch Fit is a device for those looking for an activity bracelet with a design other than that of an activity bracelet. At the level of sports and health monitoring, it is a spectacular device, including GPS, blood oxygen saturation and free and guided exercise plans, both for fitness and running.

It is not a perfect device (it could improve a lot with mobile payments and better notifications) but its relationship between features and price makes it a round product. No wearable better represents the good, pretty cheap.

Best ultraportable computer: MacBook Air M1

Even if Apple’s cheapest laptop is a category productpremium not suitable for all audiences, the leap of faith they have taken in bringing their desktop operating system to their own processors is worth looking at with curiosity. Apple says the improvements are extraordinary, but with this company it is difficult to know when its hype is the result of an elaborate marketing movement and how much of what is promised is real.

Without being seduced by the figures and testing the equipment objectively, I really liked it. I have not done any benchmarks to see if it is powerful, but in my day-to-day use I feel that I am facing a product that is fast for all my tasks, completely silent as it does

not have fans (and that in fact, since it does not have fans you can use it on a blanket or in bed without fear of dust) and it fulfills the essence that defines a premium ultraportable: excellence in multimedia, very light weight and the best battery I have ever had in a laptop.
