At the Spotify news presentation event that took place yesterday we saw a new interface in addition to the promise of a subscription variant with music without loss of quality.
But not all the news from the Swedish company are so positive, as they have told in 9to5Google.
Spotify begins to layer free accounts on Google speakers
Without any prior notice, the company has begun restricting paid accounts from the ability to send content from a device to speakers. That is, we will not be able to use Spotify Connect unless we are Premium users.
In this way, the app invites us to subscribe and pay if we want to use that function, which already makes it clear that it is paid in the application interface itself.
The funny thing is that it is not specified that we have to have a Premium account on the company’s website where it explains how to use Spotify Connect.
For the moment, there is an alternative
Personally, this is not an option that I use a lot, because I have the Spotify account connected to Google Home through its application. In this way we can ask by voice commands to start playing a song or playlist.
However, we do not know if this possibility will also be restricted to paid accounts in the future, making Spotify de facto unusable with Google smart speakers unless we pay monthly.
The entry Spotify removes the option to send audio to Google Home in free accounts appears first in The Free Android.
