It is more than clear that backups are really important, not only to avoid losing the photos or videos that we have on the computer, but also at a more technical level. Have our controllers safekeeping is almost essential in case it happens some kind of mistake. Keep in mind that if a driver fails, the performance of our operating system will be much worse, so it is very interesting to have a backup with which to reinstall the version that worked.

To get a backup copy of our controllers we have several tools that will serve us for this purpose, since they will ensure that our controllers are not lost and we can restore them when we need them.

DriverBackup!

The first program that we present to you is DriverBackup !, a free and ad-free tool that analyzes our operating system in search of drivers, in order to make a backup copy with them. The first thing we should do is download this software from the main website of its developer, to later install it.

The first thing we see at the top is a series of buttons that function as a controllers filter:

  • All: shows us all the drivers installed in our system.
  • OEM: it only shows us the OEM drivers, that is, those that are installed by default in Windows.
  • Third party: here we will see the additional drivers, installed manually, that do not come by default with Windows.

Backup with DriverBackup!

Since what we want is to make a backup copy of our drivers, we are going to achieve it by following these steps:

  • At the top of the window we will see a menu from where we will choose if we want to create the backup or restore an existing one. In this menu we select Backup to load the configuration of our future backup.
  • We will see a list with all the drivers installed on our computer. We select the ones we want to copy (we recommend that only the Third Party be selected, since the others came by default installed in Windows) and click on the button Start Backup.

  • A new window will appear from where we will configure the backup. We must introduce a path to save it and one description of said copy. To start the backup process, we are going to click on the button again Start Backup and we will wait for the process to finish.

Restore backup with DriverBackup!

If the time comes we need to restore a backup copy of our drivers, we will have to perform a few very simple steps:

  • The first thing would be to select the section Restore at the top of the program window.

  • Now we must choose the backup to restore. To do this, click on the button Open Backup File and we select the path where we have stored the copy that we want to return to operational. Once it loads we can see all the available drivers in the list.
  • To restore it, we will select the drivers that we want to reinstall on our computer and click on the button Restore so that the restoration process begins. Once it has finished, we must restart our computer for the changes to take effect.

Free Driver Backup

This is another free program with which we can make backup copies of our drivers and thus be covered for any type of problem that may arise. Thanks to this tool we will be able to keep safe the main Windows drivers, as well as the audio, video and network drivers. keyboard or Bluetooth among others, which are in our computer.

As is evident, the first thing we have to do is download it, to then install it on our PC. At that moment we execute it and follow these steps to get a backup copy of our drivers.

  • As soon as we open we will see a window where several drivers for our equipment appear. From here we can select the ones we want to use for the backup. We must make it clear that these are the drivers recommended by the tool so it is more than convenient to click on Select All.
  • If we still want to search for all the system drivers, we must click on Scan Drivers (in the upper right) and then in Scan all Drivers. Once finished we select the ones we want.
  • It’s time to press the button Backup, so that it starts backing up all the drivers that are checked.

Other alternatives

If neither of these two programs convinces you, there are several alternatives that you can try to back up your Windows drivers.

  • Driver Genius: thanks to this tool we will be able to make a backup copy of all the drivers, since it has a quite powerful scanning system, to indicate absolutely everything that is on our PC. It is free software and has a simple and highly intuitive interface.
  • DriverMax: In this case, it also scans our PC in search of all the drivers that we have installed, both those that are obsolete, such as those that are from the system or those that have been downloaded. We can make backup copies so as not to lose them and all from free software. It is possibly one of those with a more careful and beautiful interface.

  • Driver Easy: It may not be a proper tool to make backup copies, but it does seem very interesting for you to know about it. This software is in charge of detecting, downloading and solving all those problems that we could have with the drivers of our computer. In addition, it allows us to manage them as we see, that is, we can install, remove and even perform an analysis of all of them. It is a free software that has a very neat interface and that makes the adaptation period really short thanks to how perfectly at hand everything is.

With everything we have told you, you can already be sure that your controllers will be safe so that you can restore them the moment they stop working properly. This type of backup is very important, so it is convenient that you do not forget to do it from time to time.
