Screen, a free app for group work on the same shared screen, on Windows, Linux and macOS

These days of quarantine, telework has exploded, and we still have many days of confinement to refine our formula. Zoom and Microsoft Teams are two of the applications that have grown in this period, in our working groups and friends, but also in meetings of political. However, there are specific needs that these tools may not satisfy with its features.

Screen is an application that can do much to help the work in group, because as they say in their motto, lets work together as if the whole world were in the same room. Or to understand it better, Screen is a “Google Docs for everything“, in the sense that it allows collaborative work on remote on all aspects of the shared screen of one of the participants.

A cursor for each participant in the call

At all times, it indicates who owns each cursor.

Normally, two people control the same screen is something uncomfortable, something that can be experienced when someone controls our remote. However, Screen allows each participant in the work meeting have a cursor with his name on the screenso that you can simultaneously edit multiple lines of code, or are controlled at the same time different boards in Trello and applications tasks, etc

This is not the first application that has existed in this sense, but their creator, Jahanzeb Sherwani, says the application is two times to five times faster than other tools for screen sharing. Provides a latency of between 30 and 50 ms, while others, according to Sherwani, ranging between 100 and 150 ms. The platform has been developed between two people without external funding, but the Sherwani is not new in this sector since 5 years ago, sold to Slack Screenhero, the app that did something similar to what we do now with Screen. Sherwani was working in Slack, but unfortunately, the project never grew much, so that was discontinued.

Screen can also be controlled from web browsers on a smartphone

The launch Screen these days it is not a coincidence. The two developers involved take a year working on the project, and affirm that they have been working these days in an intensive way for you to help in the crisis. In that sense, it offers free of charge even in payment plans. Joining meetings will always be free, but the person whose computer is being used with shared screenyes , you will have to pay 10 dollars a month when you pass the pandemic coronavirus.

If something is learning a lot of people who before worked in offices and now teleworks is that although the possibilities of Internet are limitless, in terms of tools maybe there have been developments that squeeze the maximum. Screen allows conversations ephemeral on the screen while working, without losing capabilities such as talking on the audio and video in an integrated way. For many working environments, it may be the solution to many problems, regardless of the platform from which you work, and accept a simple invitation.
