OPPO Enco X analysis: headphones with a noise cancellation that scares

Wireless headphones have become one of the most demanded accessories by users. The increase in the consumption of streaming music, games or video has made it increasingly logical to demand comfortable headphones, and those with cable are not always so.

The star form factor has been the TWS, small headphones, with a charging box, which allow the use of them almost without realizing that we are carrying them.

One of the latest models to arrive in Spain are the OPPO Enco X, High-end devices that boast some of the most impressive noise cancellation I’ve ever seen. Well, I heard.

Like other brands do, when OPPO introduced these headphones it boasted that the noise cancellation was impressive, that it would cancel out external sound so that we could concentrate on music, calls or podcasts, whatever we were listening to.

The noise-canceling headphones trap: not everyone has the same

Noise cancellation has become one of the fashionable extras for headphones. However, be very careful, as there is a catch.

However, we know that many times brands tend to exaggerate the benefits of their products. This is not one of those occasions.

I rarely have to verify that a device works because it does it too well. I explain. When I activated the noise cancellation of the OPPO Enco X for the first time, the feeling of silence was so radical that I had to take them off again to check if the ambient noise had not been silenced while I put them on, casually.

It wasn’t like that, the surrounding noise, produced by conversations, traffic and normal street noise, was still there. The engineering behind these headphones is so good that I can say without a doubt that they are the most impactful TWS headphones I have ever tried, at least in Noise Cancellation.

The technology used was invented in 2007, when DBEE 1.0 Dynamic Audio was released. The one that includes the Enco X is the third generation.

As we can expect from a high-end product, the Enco X have a mode of transparency That can be activated from the application or from the headphones, which allows us to hear the environment cleanly while we are wearing them.

A good design, but with improvable materials

The cross of this analysis comes from the hand of the materials. OPPO has not created ugly headphones, in fact they look a lot like Apple Airpods Pro, but it is true that the choice of plastic in the box is not the best.

It has reminded us of the Vivo TWS Neo, and it is because the sensation in the hand that it transmits is not that of a high-end product. In addition, the glossy finish makes fingerprints and skin grease remain, and that happens both in the charging case and in the headphones.

Of course, it is a purely aesthetic complaint since both the size of the case and the ergonomics of the headphones are more than good, making it not uncomfortable to use them during somewhat longer days.

Water resistance is present, but with IP54 protection, which resists splashes, so we can use it in the gym or raining, but no more.

Some gestures are missing on the OPPO Enco X

There must be some reason that in the last few months all the manufacturers of wireless headphones have dispensed with touch gestures in their products. Since the Pixel Buds 2 I have not been able to configure that again and find it frustrating.

In the OPPO Enco X we have access to a configuration of gestures and options through the Hey Melody application that also allows us to update the firmware.

However, we would have liked more configuration options, as well as being able to use a simple touch to perform actions, even if we had to activate it ourselves.

Good autonomy and low latency

The TWS headphones are not designed to spend many hours with them but even so the autonomy of the OPPO Enco X is sufficient. About 5 hours of use, but without active noise cancellation. The box gives us another 20 extra hours.

And yes, we have not only a USB port, something to be expected, but wireless charging, something that even more expensive models don’t always have.

In addition, the low latency that bluetooth 5.2 gives us allows us to watch videos or play games without the feeling of asynchrony that we have in some cheaper headphones.

The OPPO Enco X are a good choice

The price of these headphones is 179 euros so they are not an option for those looking for something cheap.

However, are designed for those who need small headphones and excellent noise cancellation. Few options do this better than OPPO’s new headphones in my opinion.
