Most of the mobiles available in Spain with 5G connectivity use Qualcomm processors. These processors require a modem to work with mobile networks, components that Qualcomm is improving as well as its processors.
The company has just presented the new X62 and X65, the new modems that will accompany future phones with a Snapdragon processor. And what is special about these chips? We take a look at it.
New Snapdragon X62 and X65: Qualcomm’s fastest 5G
Qualcomm has just introduced its new generation of 5G modems. The most striking of these is the Snapdragon X65 (since on the X62 they have not specified many details), the first Qualcomm modem capable of reaching a transfer speed of 10 Gbps, a great evolution with respect to the 7 that the X60 present in the newly presented Snapdragon 888 is capable of reaching.
Beyond speed, the new Qualcomm modem has some features that add extra value, such as:
- Have an upgradeable architecture:This modem has the ability to upgrade through updates tosoftware, which allows it to continue to improve over time.
- Support for new antennas: The Snapdragon X65 is compatible with the new antenna system. The Qualcomm 545s are the company’s first antenna system with AI tuning technology.
- More energy efficientthanks to an energy tracking solution and PowerSave 2.0 technology.
- More complete spectrum aggregationacross all key 5G bands and combinations.
Regarding the availability of these modems, they are currently in the sampling phase for Qualcomm customers. The company expects this modem available on commercial devices by the end of 2021. If we take into account that the Snapdragon X60 was presented exactly one year ago and it has not arrived until a few days ago with the Snapdragon 888.
In that sense, it is to be expected that it will be the successor of the Snapdragon 888 that will end up releasing the X65 modem, while the X62 should be available for mobile phones with a Snapdragon 700 series processor, being expected to be the successor of the 750G whoever introduces this new modem.
