Snapdragon 678 will be a processor that we will see in 2021 in models of the more modest or common mid-range, as it does not have a built-in 5G modem. This shows Qualcomm’s intention to target cheaper models in this middle segment, as is often the case with chips from the Snapdragon 600 range.

This Snapdragon 678 is an eight-core processor, all of them Qualcomm Kyro 460, capable of reaching a clock speed of 2.2 GHz. This is a 10% increase in speed, from 2.0 GHz to 2.2 GHz. as for the GPU, the brand has again used Adreno 612
, although it leaves us with a series of improvements in graphic performance designed to make it work better when playing. Qualcomm is aware of the importance of gaming also in the mid-range, so this aspect is improved.
We can also expect improvements in image processing, thanks to the use of DSP Hexagon 685. Thanks to advances in the field of computational photography, improvements in photography are obtained, allowing an advance of the mid-range in Android in this sense. This processor will support dual combinations of 16MP or single 25MP cameras.
Snapdragon 678 comes with an LTE Snapdragon X12 modem, which can reach download speeds of up to 600 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 150 Mbps. This chip will have support for Bluetooth 5.0 and dual-band WiFi, in terms of connectivity, as announced by Qualcomm.
Qualcomm has confirmed that distribution of this processor will start soon, so that we will see it in models within the simplest mid-range on Android from 2021. No brands that will use it have yet been mentioned, but it promises to be an option that we will see a lot in this segment.
