Microsoft updates Edge in stable version for all users: tab groups, PiP mode and more arrive

Microsoft has released a new update for its Edge browser in the stable version that brings it to the build 93.0.961.38. Two steps behind Dev and Canary channels (they already use version 95), Edge in the stable channel receives with this update interesting improvements.

Once Edge is updated, it will have the groups of tabs, the ability to hide the title bar in mode vertical tabs, the option to use the mode Picture in Picture (PiP) or non-blending mode when used in Internet Explorer compatibility. These are all the changes that come with this update.

What’s new in Edge

• Tab groups. Tab grouping has been turned on which provides the ability to categorize tabs into user defined groups and help find, change and manage tabs more effectively across multiple workflows.
• Title bar can now be hidden while using vertical tabs. They can be gained space by hiding the title bar of the browser, while it is in the vertical tabs. To do it you have to go to edge: // configuration / appearance and, in the section “Customize toolbar” select the option to hide the title bar in vertical tab mode.
• Picture from video in picture (PiP) from floating toolbar. When hovering over a supported video, a toolbar will appear allowing you to view that video in a PiP window. This enhancement is currently available for Microsoft Edge users on macOS.
• Initial preferences in Microsoft Edge. Microsoft Edge now supports a limited number of Initial Preferences (previously Master Preferences). This enhancement can be implemented by IT administrators by default before users launch the browser for the first time. Here you have more information about.

• The IE mode Microsoft Edge will support “no merge” behavior. For an end user, when a new browser window is launched from an IE mode application, it will be in a separate session, similar to the no-merge behavior in Internet Explorer 11. You will need to adjust the site list to configure which sites to avoid session sharing as “no merge”. For each Microsoft Edge window, the first time an IE mode tab is visited within that window, if it is one of the designated “do not merge” sites, that window is locked in a different “do not merge” IE session from all other Microsoft Edge windows at least until the last IE mode tab in that window is closed. This follows the previous behavior where users could start IE without merging and could also start Microsoft Edge without merge through other mechanisms.
• There is a new policy to stop implicit login. The ImplicitSignInEnabled policy allows system administrators to disable implicit login in Microsoft Edge browsers.
• Policies to bypass ClickOnce and DirectInvoke requests. Policies have been updated to allow bypassing ClickOnce and DirectInvoke application prompts for specific file types, from specific domains. To do this it is necessary to enable ClickOnceEnabled or DirectInvokeEnabled, enable the AutoOpenFileTypes policy and set the list of specific file types for which ClickOnce and DirectInvoke should be disabled and enable the AutoOpenAllowedForURLs policy and set the list of specific domains for which ClickOnce will be disabled and DirectInvoke.

• Removal of 3DES in TLS. Support for the TLS_RSA_WITH_3DES_EDE_CBC_SHA cipher suite will be removed. This change is happening in the Chromium project, on which Microsoft Edge is based. Additionally, in Microsoft Edge version 93, the TripleDESEnabled policy will be available to support scenarios that need to preserve compatibility with outdated servers. This compatibility policy will be deprecated and will no longer function in Microsoft Edge version 95. Make sure to update the affected servers before then.
