Microsoft Releases Build 22468 for Windows 11 on the Dev Channel and Now Offers More Information on VPN Connections

Continuing with the scheduled roadmap and less than a week from the arrival for all users Windows 11, Microsoft continues to polish its operating system with a view to what we will see in 2022 and has released Build 22468 within the Dev Channel in the Insider Program.

A compilation, a branch, that no longer has to do with the improvements that will arrive in a week and that focuses on changes to come with the 2022 update, an advance that makes may have more bugs. A Build that focuses on correcting bugs and that adds improvements in the VPN connection and in the management of searches.

What’s new in this Build

  • By clicking on a VPN connection in “VPN Settings”, now you can access and have information about some statistics about the connection.
  • Added an option to turn off the display of recent searches hovering over the search icon on the taskbar. This new option is found under “Taskbar Behaviors” under “Taskbar Settings”.

Other improvements

  • Fixed a rare “Taskbar” crash on explorer.exe initialization related to network icon loading.
  • Side menu reliability has been improved hovering over the search icon on the taskbar.
  • When navigating to the search icon on the taskbar using the keyboard, navigating outside will now dismiss the floating menu of recent searches.
  • The options that appear when you right-click on recent files that are displayed when searching for certain applications should now work when selected.
  • In “File Explorer” when right-clicking files in OneDrive locations, the context menu will no longer unexpectedly close when hovering over entries that open submenus, such as “Open with”.
  • Double-clicking a network folder to open it will no longer unexpectedly attempt to pin to Quick Access instead of opening it.

  • Fixed an underlying font issue that caused the right hand of the kaomoji shruggie ¯ _ (?) _ / ¯ to not display in the correct position, as well as apostrophes in certain cases.
  • With this build the preferred mic input format settings should be kept.
  • Fixed an issue where certain units were not showing in Defragment and optimize drives.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented MDM-enrolled teams from properly upgrading to the previous build. These devices are now unlocked so they are not updated to the latest version.
  • Fixes an issue that could cause unexpected flickering in certain apps like Microsoft Edge when using multiple monitors with different refresh rates.
  • Fixed a screen related bug that was causing some Insiders to experience an increase in bug checks on recent builds.
  • Fixed an issue where the Windows Update icon on the taskbar might appear to suddenly disappear when you mouse over it.
  • Addresses a rare issue with certain post-sleep devices where Wi-Fi would freeze in an off state and trying to turn it back on would not work.
  • Fixes an issue for certain devices that could cause the system to freeze in some scenarios.

Known issues

  • Users who upgrade builds 22000.xxx, or earlier, to newer builds on the Dev Channel using the latest Dev Channel ISO, they may receive the following warning message– The build you are trying to install is Flight Signed. To continue with the installation, enable release signing. If you receive this message, press the Enable button, restart the PC and try the update again.
  • Some users may experience reduced screen timeouts and sleep. They investigate the potential impact that shorter screen and idle times could have on power consumption.
  • In some cases, you may not be able to enter text when using Search from the start or the taskbar. If you experience the problem, press WIN + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog box, then close it.
  • Taskbar sometimes flickers when changing input methods.
  • Investigating reports regarding the Notification Center will be put into a state in recent builds where it does not start. If you are affected by this, restarting explorer.exe may solve the problem.
  • After clicking the search icon on the taskbar, search panel may not open. If this happens, restart the “Windows Explorer” process and reopen the search panel.
  • The search panel may appear black and not display any content below the search box.
  • The widget dashboard may appear empty. To fix the problem, you can log out and log back in.
  • Widgets may be displaying the wrong size on external monitors. If you come across this, you can launch the widgets using the touch or WIN + W shortcut on your real PC screen first and then launch them on the secondary monitors.

If you belong to the Dev Channel within the Insider Program with Windows 11, you can download the update by going the usual route, that is, “Settings> Update and Security> Windows Update”.
