Microsoft releases Build 22458 for Windows 11 within the Dev Channel in preparation for the arrival of the 22H2 branch

Microsoft releases Build 22458 for Windows 11 and it does a few days earlier than we are used to lately, since Fridays are usually the chosen days. An update that comes for those who are part of the Dev Channel within the Insider Program.

With this update the company focuses on add bug fixes and improvements Before implementing new features and remember that this branch is already different from the one that integrates the Beta Channel and that it is the prelude to the arrival of Windows 11 on October 5.

Changes and improvements

• Added a new Windows 11 Tips application with a new design and 114 new tips.
• There is still an issue affecting the taskbar where the icons appear misaligned or cut off.
• A link to the login options is added to the power menu in Start.

• Fixed an underlying issue affecting the reliability of Startup.
• Folders with # in the folder name can now be added to indexing.
• Fixed an issue that caused that the setup sometimes failed when trying to open the display page.

• Fixed an issue where Location page in Settings was not displaying warning text which explained why location services settings were grayed out if grayed out.
• Changes made to preferences in Manage application execution aliases in Settings should now be preserved.

• Fixed a couple of typos in dll output (Issue # 206).
• Fixed a problem that could cause certain games to crash unexpectedly when using ALT + Enter (i.e. switching between full screen and window) during with Auto HDR enabled.
• Fixed an issue that caused text truncation in the File Encryption System window in certain cases.
• Fixes a rare scenario that could cause an uninstalled in-box app to reappear unexpectedly after restarting.

Known issues

• They work to fix an issue that causes some Surface Pro Xs to check errors with WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR.
• They are working on a fix for an issue that causes some devices to check for errors with the DRIVER_PNP_WATCHDOG error when trying to update to a recent build.
• In some cases, text may not be able to be entered when using Search from startup or taskbar. If you experience the problem, press WIN + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog box, then close it.
• System is missing when right-clicking the Start button (WIN + X).
• Taskbar icons shift to the side when in center alignment By default, causing the “show hidden icons” button to cut them off when there are too many applications open.
• The taskbar sometimes flickers when changing input methods.
• After clicking the search icon on the taskbar, the search panel may not open. If this happens, you must restart the “Windows Explorer” process and reopen the search panel.
• Search panel may appear black and not show any content below the search box.
• Right-clicking files in OneDrive locations in File Explorer will cause the context menu to close unexpectedly when you hover over entries that open submenus, such as “Open with.”

• The widget board may appear empty. To fix the problem, you can log out and log back in.
• Widgets may be displaying the wrong size on external monitors. If you come across this, you can launch the widgets via touch or WIN + W shortcut on your real PC screen first and then launch them on your secondary monitors.
• They investigate a problem in which Windows Sandbox may not start for some Insiders after updating to this build.
• They work to improve the relevance of searches in the Store.
• They investigate reports that both WSL2 and Hyper-V do not work in this build on ARM64 PCs like Surface Pro X.

If you belong to the Dev Channel within the Insider Program with Windows 11, you can download the update by going the usual route, that is, “Settings> Update and Security> Windows Update”.
