Microsoft has thoroughly revamped its document scanning application by changing its name and incorporating a host of new features: the app goes from Office Lens to Microsoft Lens. Apart from working as a scanner now it is possible to transcribe text, read it and even digitize tables.
Office Lens is an application that has been offering excellent help since 2015 to anyone who wants convert a physical document into a digital one– Just point the phone to scan any paper, even with automatic perspective correction. So, once Microsoft decided to perform a revamp of all Office apps, the company put special emphasis on evolving Lens. He has succeeded.
Microsoft Lens is much more than a document scanner

The change in the name of the application seeks to highlight the company behind Office Lens, an app that has exceeded 10 million users on the Google Play Store and that has an excellent average of 4.7 stars in the evaluations. Not surprising since Microsoft came up with some great free capture and digitizing software.
With the change to Microsoft Lens, the company takes the opportunity to be inspired by the competition (Google Lens) incorporating its Artificial Intelligence system at the service of recognizing everything that is captured. This function is integrated into the new ‘Actions’, a compendium of functionalities that significantly extends the usefulness of Microsoft Lens.
New document scanner actions allow you to recognize and transcribe much of what is included in scanned documents. These actions are:
- Text. Microsoft Lens can transcribe the text of any scanned image for editing in a word processor such as Word.
- Table. With this action, Lens digitizes the tables of any physical sheet in an Excel-like format. So the rows and columns can be edited from a spreadsheet app.
- Capture printed text to read. What do you want Microsoft Lens to read aloud to you in a book? With this action it is possible.
- Contact. Lens can extract the information of a contact to easily add it to the phone book of the mobile.
- QR code. The very name already says it: Microsoft Lens is now a fully functional QR code reader.
