Microsoft launches Reading Progress, a free tool that integrates with Teams to facilitate reading fluency

Microsoft has launched a new application aimed at the educational market that is related to Microsoft Teams, the popular tool for collaborative work. The name of the new utility is Reading Progress and the American company has begun to implement it in Microsoft Teams globally.

A tool that in this case and as its name suggests, is intended to improve and control a student’s reading fluency and that this can be evaluated more efficiently with the help of Artificial Intelligence.

Facilitate reading fluency

Reading progress is being rolled out gradually by Microsoft globally, so it may still take a few days to reach all the computers.

A tool that is integrated into Teams, that has translation into more than 100 languages and that works on all platforms in which Teams is supported, either a Windows computer, but also on phones and tablets based on Android and iOS or iPadOS.

Reading Progress is a free application and the objective of it is to facilitate and improve a student’s reading process by allowing the student to read and record in environments free from distractions and that these recordings can then be sent to educators that review them with the help of an automatic detection system based on Artificial Intelligence to detect errors. This is what Reading Progress allows:

  • Students can record themselves reading aloud on audio and / or video.
  • This allows students to read at their own pace and in a comfortable environment, eliminating any stigma, stress, or distraction associated with reading aloud.
  • The app has simplified a time-consuming process by seamlessly integrating with the Teams education dashboard. Once submitted, educators can review the recorded assignment and provide feedback at their convenience.
  • Educators can use the automatic detection feature to quickly review errors such as mispronunciations, repetitions, phrasing, intonations, and omissions, and can use them to personalize instruction for each student.
