In the development Kit, Microsoft has emphasized the three key features of the experience:

1. SurfaceDuoLayout: Control interface for applications that use one or two screens.
2. SurfaceDuoScreenManager: Control of the mode changes and the application responds appropriately.
3. ScreenHelper: Provides information about the display and state of the hinges in order to best adapt the application.
