Two days ago Microsoft announced the Surface Duo 2 next to other Surface models for 2021/22. A folding phone that came to succeed a first-generation Surface Duo that has tiptoed through the market and to which Microsoft wants to give a new impetus by updating it to Android 11.
Remember that the Surface Duo already has Android 10, so the logical step is to jump to the next version of the operating system. The problem is that this version of Android will arrive when Android 12 is already on the market, so Microsoft is late again.
A problem that, however, is not unique to Microsoft. Few manufacturers update on time, and fewer phones of each brand are fortunate enough to receive Android updates as Google releases them. Now it is Microsoft that announces Android 11 a year later.
In statements by Microsoft officials to The Verge, it is ensured that Android 11 will hit the first-generation Surface Duo “before the end of this year”, so the margin to release the update is still too large.
Perhaps part of the blame for this delay has been adaptation of Android 11 to use on two screens, because there are still few terminals on the market with these characteristics. And although Microsoft announced three years of updates, it would not be surprising that the Surface Duo will not go beyond Android 11.
Furthermore, the arrival of Android 11 arrives like May water for the owners of this terminal, who complain of glitches and problems with multitasking and gestures, a screen that turns off when using book mode as well as errors and crashes with the fingerprint reader.
That said, with the arrival of Android 11 it is expected that interesting improvements will come to a phone that will have its greatest competition in its successor, a model for which a release date has not yet been confirmed and which will also arrive with Android 11.

The advantage of the first generation Duo is that the Surface Duo 2 will reach a limited number of countries (United States, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Ireland, Switzerland and the United Kingdom) without a Date still confirmed at prices starting at $ 1,499 for the 128GB version, $ 1,599 for the 256GB version and $ 1,799 for the 512GB version. While the Surface Duo can be purchased for 1,549 euros in Spain.
