Huawei is still determined to wage war in the mobile phone sector, despite how much the United States is struggling. Today the new Mate 40 Series have been launched, of which we will see the Mate 40 Pro in Spain. We have been able to test it a few days before the announcement and we tell you what our first impressions are.

A different, evolved design
The first thing that catches the attention of this model is its rear ring, in which the cameras are included. It’s a design return that we saw on the Mate 30. The same goes for the sides, with an exceptionally curved screen that, this time, leaves room for the volume buttons.
Huawei must be congratulated for having implemented two complete speakers in the upper and lower frame of the device, not settling for putting one in the terminal’s earpiece.
Of course, although we have been with it for a short time, it is a large and heavy mobile, and that could be a problem on a day-to-day basis. We will see it in the analysis that we will carry out soon.
An extraordinarily curved screen and a lot of power
The screen of this terminal draws attention for its high diagonal, 6.76 “, for how good it looks and also for the curvature of more than 80 ° that we have on the sides.
This makes if we look at the mobile from the front it seems that it does not have side frames, but it also causes extraordinarily high shadows when we have a white background.
At the top of the screen we have a front camera that is accompanied by a depth measurement sensor that allows us to maintain the advanced facial unlocking that we saw in previous Huawei Mate models.
As for power, Huawei has opted for a new chipset, the Kirin 9000, the first of five nanometers that we see in Android phones. Of course, it is striking that it is satisfied with 8 GB of RAM when there are already 16 GB models.
And it doesn’t seem like we can have any complaints with the 66W fast charging and the 50W wireless charging either.
A promising rear camera
But the aspect in which this terminal is going to stand out the most is in the camera. Huawei has oriented the Mate 40 to be an evolution of the P40 and that will position it as one of the best mobiles when it comes to taking photos and videos.
In this last section, the Ultra Cinema 20 Mpx camera that is incorporated will take on special relevance.
For now we cannot share the photographs we have taken but we are already telling you that it will be one of the references of the year.
In the software is the doubt
Among the novelties in the software is Huawei’s new map application, Petal Maps, as well as the possibility of controlling the mobile using gestures, although this will surely end up being something more curious than practical.
The negative part comes from the hand of Google, or rather the absence of its applications, as we already knew. If you want to know what it’s like to spend a week using a mobile without the Google Play Store, we recommend that you watch the video we recorded about it.
Huawei Mate 40 Pro: a first conclusion
There have been few hours that we have spent with the Huawei Mate 40 Pro but, although we do not doubt the hardware of the device, especially in terms of power and photographic performance, having opted for a screen more typical of a mobile of 800 euros and not having Google apps is going to make Huawei have to fight more than ever.
Especially to justify the 1199 euros. We will see it in the analysis.
