Huawei FreeBuds Studio review: quality headphones at a good price

Huawei has presented the new Mate 40 Series worldwide, of which we will see the Huawei Mate 40 in Spain. Together with this mobile, it has made its new high-end headphones official, the Huawei FreeBuds Studio.

These are the first circumaural headphones from Huawei. For those of you who don’t know them, they are the headphones that surround the ear, instead of resting on it.

This makes them much larger but also much more comfortable to have long hours. This is perfect for traveling or working with them.

The Huawei FreeBuds Studio are stylish

Huawei has made it clear in each of the sections of this product that it aspires to fight with the best. And when it does that, the design has to be something very careful. And yes, it has been.

The FreeBuds Studio They are available in two colors, a classic black and some in a champagne-like gold color that we liked a lot but that are especially striking.

The headband has a soft touch both at the top and at the bottom, where it is padded to fit our head, as is normal.

The opening size can be increased by two bars that expand on the sides. I have missed that the extension pieces of the headphones were longer. Yes, I have a big head and, although I have had no problems wearing the headphones, it did give me the feeling that a couple more centimeters would have been appreciated.

The two ear cups are designed to fit the head and are neither circular nor symmetrical. The idea is that they accommodate the ear without having an excessive volume.

On the right we have the pairing and power buttons and three microphones. On the left the noise cancellation button and three other microphones. Inside both we have a silkscreen that tells us which is the right and which is the left, although as we say, the design is so adapted to the shape of the head that it is obvious which is the correct position.

Use and gestures

The Huawei Freebuds Studio have an action control by gestures, but they are not in the two headphones, but only in the right one, something that shocked me at the beginning although I got used to it quickly.

  • Double touch: pause and resume music.
  • Swipe up and down: increase and decrease the volume.
  • Swipe back and forth and right: go to the next or previous song.

To this we have to add that the headphones have a sensor that detects if we take them off, to pause the music, and if we put them back on, it will resume. The former takes a long second to work, the latter is almost instantaneous.

To these gestures we must add three physical buttons. We have one for power on, the one for bluetooth and one that allows you to switch between the three noise cancellation modes.

Balanced sound and great isolation from external noise

The sound quality of these headphones is as high as we could expect from a high-end product, as is the case.

Active noise cancellation promises up to 40 dB of noise cancellation. We can choose to have it on, off or in transparency mode with which we will listen around as if we were not wearing headphones.

Huawei promises a autonomy between 22 and 24 hours depending on whether we activate noise cancellation. We have not tried them that much but we have loved the fast charging, which has really been noticed when connecting the USB cable to the headphones.

Huawei FreeBuds Studio: a success

Huawei has bet heavily on offering over-ear headphones with great noise cancellation. In this segment the company that reigns is undoubtedly Sony, although other audio brands have very decent proposals, such as Bose or Sennheiser. Even Microsoft has a similar product, the Surface Headphones 2.

The new Huawei Freebus Studio are capable of fighting with all of them but it is true that a distinction in price was necessary. Design can also be a factor, especially in the color champagne.

To be able to buy these headphones at a starting price of 299 euros They make them an option to consider within this market segment, and as they drop in price as with other manufacturer products, they can become the kings of circumaural headphones.

The entry Huawei FreeBuds Studio Review: quality headphones at a good price appears first in The Free Android.
