Huawei FreeBuds 4i headphones review: price, battery and ANC

Huawei has been creating accessories for its mobile phones for many years, but it has not been until recently that it has begun to enhance its audio segment a lot. For this, it has created laboratories that study sound, body ergonomics and materials that help create better products.

Their family of Freebuds headphones is becoming one of the most important on the market not only because they offer a good price, but they also offer good sound and performance.

A few weeks ago Huawei presented its new cheap wireless headphones in China, the Huawei Freebuds 4i, which despite its price boasted active noise cancellation, which the Huawei Freebuds Pro or Apple Airpods have.

Now the company has brought them to Spain and we have been using them for a week. We tell you our experience and opinion.

Good design, no crazy stuff

Huawei has evolved the design of its Freebuds 3i but has increased the size of the case. This makes it something bigger than we would like, but it is understandable given the autonomy they give us.

The box is great because the headphones are too, at least when compared to the high-end models. This is also something that we accept without major problems.

The Freebuds 4i with comfortable on the ears and the sales box includes three pairs of pads so that we can adapt them as best as possible to our body.

Sound quality

Starting from the premise that these are entry-level or mid-range headphones, we have to praise the sound we get. It is not the same as in models that cost twice as much, but the quality is very high.

In addition, we have active noise cancellation, something that is not normal in the segment of headphones under 100 euros.

We can choose to activate it or not, as well as use the transparency mode that reproduces the music or audio we want but also lets outside noise pass.

Noise cancellation works better at some frequencies than others, but it is more than enough to walk down the street without interruptions or to be in closed rooms with background noise.

Gestures and controls

These headphones do not stand out especially for the large number of gestures that we can choose. We only have the option of using the double tap or the long press.

By default, we have to use double tap to stop and play and hold to switch between ANC on, ANC off and transparency mode.

We can modify some parameters from the Huawei AI Life application. Of course, we will need the version ending in 308, and for now it is only in the AppGallery, not in the Play Store. So, we can download the Huawei store and install it from this link.

This application will also help us to update the firmware of the headphones.

It is missing being able to configure one or three touches to have more control of the actions, as well as the possibility of modifying the volume in the headset although being honest in this price range is not normal.

Another shortcoming is the presence sensor. If we are listening to music and we remove a headset, the playback will not stop. Nor if we remove both, it only does it if we put them both in the cargo box.

A top-notch battery

One of the main improvements of the Freebuds 4i over its predecessors, in addition to the ANC, is autonomy.

In each of the two headphones, Huawei has included a 55 mAh high-density battery that allows autonomy of up to 10 hours of continuous use. This varies based on volume and other factors, such as connectivity. If we have the box we will have up to 22 hours of total use.

Finally, we have to talk about fast charging, which allows you to use it for up to 4 hours with just 10 minutes of charging.

The best option under 100 euros

Huawei has fully hit the mark with these Huawei Freebuds 4i. They are inexpensive headphones without being the cheapest, but given their performance we expected them to cost a lot more.

If you are looking for comfortable headphones, with a lot of autonomy and active noise cancellation, this model should be taken into account.

They can be purchased in three colors, red, white or black at the distributors that Huawei works with.
