In recent months, Huawei has been specializing in products that move away from mobile phones, for obvious reasons. We have seen the company redouble its efforts by introducing laptops and increasing its ecosystem of smartphone accessories.
At the beginning of this month of April, its new quantification bracelet, the Huawei Band 6, a model that was inspired by the homonymous bracelet of Honor. We have spent almost a week with her on the wrist, and we tell you what our impressions have been.
The Huawei Band 6’s biggest selling point is its screen. Unlike other smartbands, the Band 6 does not have a small panel.
It uses a 1.47-inch screen with a resolution of 194 x 368 pixels. This makes the viewing experience closer to a watch than a bracelet at times.
In addition, the panel technology is OLED, something that is not usually seen in cheaper products with large screens.
On the other hand, being so elongated makes it go more unnoticed on the wrist, which is helped by the black color, at least in the unit that Huawei Spain has given us.
The strap is made of silicone and cannot be changed, which limits the use a bit when we are more groomed if we are one of those who do not want to use plastic straps. That said, the design is very understated and even sophisticated, considering the price.
On the right side we have the start button, which sends us to the main screen or opens the available apps, depending on where we are.
We have resistance to water and the possibility of submerging it without fear of damage.
One of the things that is striking about the bracelet is its interface, which is like those of the other bracelets. We refer to the menus, which are displayed vertically with only one icon appearing at a time. Here it is seen that the proportion of the screen is somewhat strange.
With gestures we can open the settings if we slide from the top, see the notifications if we do it from the bottom or open the quick panels if we do it horizontally.
The operating system is the same that we have seen in watches like the Huawei Watch GT, and the operation is fluid, although the smaller screen size is noticeable on a day-to-day basis.
We can modify the covers in a simple way using the Huawei Health application, which needs the HMS, in case you have problems when installing it. From it we can see the history of sleep measurement, heart rate, blood oxygen saturation …
We can also count the steps we take, the calories we count as well as monitor up to 96 different exercises.
It is possible to control the playback of music or podcasts on the phone, although nothing is stored inside the bracelet as there is no internal memory available to the user.
The battery is one of the characteristics in which Huawei’s wristbands and watches have always stood out the most. Well, the truth is that their mobiles could also boast of it.
This Huawei Band 6 has an autonomy of up to two weeks. And yes, it is real, although it depends on whether we use blood oxygen saturation monitoring. If so, the autonomy will drop significantly.
Charging is done using a USB A cable with a magnetic connector, as is common in this type of product.
Huawei has been one of the benchmark brands in smart watches in recent years. It has opted for the type of watch that gives a lot of autonomy even though we cannot install applications or pay with it.
With the Huawei Band 6, it will try to do the same in the bracelet segment, offering a product with a slightly higher price than the competition (59 euros in Spain), but with a design that is more similar to 100-euro watches than 45 bracelets.
This product is designed for those who want a bracelet for contained cost but values the quality of the screen and aesthetics, without wanting, or being able, to pay what devices that take care of both aspects usually cost.
